Had a fabulous holiday at the Costa Calero and the all inclusive option that we picked saved us a lot of money.

The hotel staff were always friendly and greeted you with a big smile every morning, and the bar staff were the same as long as you threw a few bob in their tips bar.

"This is the fourth time we have stayed in an Iberostar hotel in different parts of the world..."

This is the fourth time we have stayed in an Iberostar hotel in different parts of the world and I have to say I was extremely disappointed. While the architecture and grounds of the Hotel were absolutely stunning and kept immaculate it in no way made up for the atrocious food, surly staff and lack of customer care.
Apart from the breakfast time ( you can't really go wrong with bacon and eggs and bread) the food was mostly inedible - either cold, still raw or in one case (king prawns) still frozen! For those on an all inclusive basis the only snacks available during the day were very sparcely filled sandwiches from the pool bar. If you fancied a piece of cake you had to pay for it. We have been used to staying in Iberostar properties where the show cooking is incredible, in this Hotel the frying of frozen chips at a 'station' in the restuarant was considered to be show cooking.
My husband was refused entry to the restuarant on one occasion for wearing tailored Burmadas, a tailored shirt and hand made Italian shoes yet they allowed men with jeans, hoodies, sleeveless t-shirts, three quarter legged sports trousers and flip-flops!
The staff in all the bars (with the exception of Pablo and a couple of others) were surly and did their best to ignore you even after having been tipped by my husband at the beginning of our stay.
The 'Piano Bar' (must be so called because a man came and played a few tunes on one night in the week we were there) stops serving drink at 12 midnight - fair enough - but when the staff turn out the lights on the guests finishing their drinks at 12.10am to get them to move to another area I think it is going a bit far. The entertainment lounge bar does serve until nearly 1 am but don't try to get a drink after this time, even if you are prepared to pay because they flatly refuse to serve anymore. Bear in mind there are no other bars near this hotel and a nightcap would involve a taxi ride into Puerta Del Carmen!
The nearest little restuarants are at the Marina below the hotel (abpout half a dozen restuarants and a couple of little shops)- here the people are friendly and the food hot and delicious which makes the climb back up to the Hotel worth it - definitely not suitable for those with walking difficulties!
This Hotel was newly opened last year - perhaps in a few more years they will have sorted out the catering although I always thought that Hotels belonging to a 'Group' would all be of a similiar standard from the beginning - let's just say I won't be rushing back to see if they have things sorted out.
