Arguineguín used to be a a small fishing village. Today it is still a working fishing port as well as a busy tourist resort. It has managed to preserve its original centre with several fish restaurants and some lively fishermen`s bars at the harbour, On a Tuesday Arguineguin has one of the biggest markets in the region. There is a coastal promenade connecting the town with the beaches and coves at Patalavaca. The Balito Beach Apartments will appeal to couples and families looking for a quiet location from which to explore the area and enjoy a cheap holiday in Gran Canaria. The hotel is in a peaceful hillside position that overlooks a rocky bay and is a 15 minute walk from the beach. Gran Canaria has been awarded the blue flag for 7 of its beaches. The centre of Puerto Rico is just over 2 miles away, with a regular daily bus sevice from the property. The apartments have a swimming pool, and a children`s pool.

Excellent location, many facing seaward. Fittings etc beginning to show age.
Pool area small for size of complex. Parking spaces limited. A lot of steps to climb. Hotel does not have policy in place to deal with very noisy and disruptive hoards of loacls who descend on the complex at weekends and make life for everyone else an absolute nightmare. Good base for driving around island etc and generally clean and tidy, and very good value for money provided you can put up with being moved out of your room at midnight to another suite beacuse of mad hoards of Canarians from Las Palmas.
Best visiting here before mid June, in which case a real bargain.

"The apartment itself was very nice - modern self catering facilities & everything worked..."

The apartment itself was very nice - modern self catering facilities & everything worked fine - no probs. No air con and no fans to hire - the rooms were sweltering at night & we had to buy a fan for 30 euros from the market. We also had a fair few cockroaches - though this was because of the hot weather - not the cleanliness of the rooms.

The view from our balcony was breath taking - we were literally above the sea!

On site there was a mini market & the pool bar (food was really good!)- both ok but nothing else around at all - buses & taxi's to get about - only 3-4 euros to puerto rico though.

We went to the main beach in Puerto Rico alot & also Anfi beach - worth a visit as cheaper in a taxi & beautiful - white sand, palm trees and very clean.

Lots of touts when out for the night but be firm! It's a little bit tacky & touristy - kind of like Blackpool so id recommend it to younger people or more lively families. Some great places to eat - fish was amazing & try the 5.98 all you can eat Chinese Buffets - good value & food v. nice. All bars give you 2 drinks for 1 so be carefull while ordering - they are pushy about you drinking more than you actually want/need.

Be warned that the weather reached 40 degrees most days so take a higher spf than you would usually!

We were extremely lucky when we landed at the Balito Beach booking a last minute holiday and not knowing where we would end up. We couldn't have chosen better. Although the Balito Beach is a short taxi ride from Puerto Rico, it was a fantastic base and so quiet, in my view warranting more than the 3 star value. The one bedroom apartments were superb with fabulous views over the sea. The pool area and restaurant was extremely clean and the food very good. All the staff were very helpful and recommended some nice Tapas Restaurants nearby. We walked to nearby Anfi and took a boat trip to Mogan, a beautiful little resort well worth a look. I would stay at the Balita Beach again in the future.
