We stayed here in February and were very pleased with our bungalow. It was close to the pool which we liked.

The swimming pool which was very warm and clean.

Weather good.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English.

All in all a great good value for money accommodation.

"I love Gran Canaria and have stayed in Maspalomas every time ive been. Sadly this year we..."

I love Gran Canaria and have stayed in Maspalomas every time ive been. Sadly this year we picked the accommodation with the least atmosphere and lay out ive ever experienced!.

Im not usually one to compalin (or comment on websites!) but when we arrived they allocated us the most horrible bungalow at the back of the complex with mould in the bathroom, holes in the doors, a leaking water heater etc etc.

I complained twice before they moved us.( And there were loads of empty bungalows!?)

The acccom was supposed to be for 2 adults, 2 children, but the childrens bedding area was a single sofa. The majority of staff were unhelpful and some were outright rude.

The daytime waiter when we asked on our first day how he was said ' ok, but i think its better for you as you are on holiday' without a hint of a smile on his face.

The groundsmen let cement dust blow over sunbathers as they were getting it ready for next season and even hit his hammer on a metal pole as he walked through the bathing area, just to be deliberately noisy.

I have never before stayed in a place where i felt guilty for being on holiday and trying to have fun.
Gran canaria, yes, but Never again Duna Beach!!

"We had read mixed reports about this place before we booked, but we had a lovely holiday...."

We had read mixed reports about this place before we booked, but we had a lovely holiday. The accomodation (self-catering) was quite basic, but spotless.
We would say that if you are planning to do any cooking, think again, because the kitchen equipment is very limited. There is a two-ring stove and fridge, and very limited crockery and cutlery (e.g no sharp knife, so everything would have to be cut with a butter knife!). No kettle or toaster (take a travel kettle!). Apparently you can hire these, but we just boiled water in a saucepan.
The bed was very comfortable, plenty of hot water (be careful, especially with children, as hot water is dangerously hot!)
There's a patio area for each bungalow, with table and chairs. There was also a TV which you could pay to use, but we never used this.
There is a small but well-stocked supermarket on site, ice creams, bar, and two swimming pools which are very clean, and loads of sun-beds and brollies.
The only time we sampled the food was a cooked breakfast one morning, which was lovely - highly recommended!
The nearest bars/restaurants are about a 10-15 minute walk (Faro 2). Maspalomas is about a 25 minute walk (this is a bit more up-market), or Playa Del Ingles is about 20 min walk. This is busier.
We didn't use any taxi's but did use bus a couple of times - cheap, but they basically turn up as and when, and bear no relation to the time-table!
All in all it would be an ideal choice for a relaxing holiday. However, if you have an aversion to children, be warned, because the bungalows are very close together and not very sound-proof! I think we were just unfortunate that there was an unusally large number of very young children on both sides of us, so no sitting relaxing with a beer in the early evening, and we always had a wake-up call in morning!

"Thinking of going to stay at Duna Beach Bungalows – think again! ..."

Thinking of going to stay at Duna Beach Bungalows – think again!

The room we were given was in such poor condition, not dirty but exposed rusty nails coming through the floor and exposed wiring, shelves & drawers falling apart etc. Mattresses stained and the beds are all made from sheets of MDF so are the most uncomfortable I ever experienced.

Generally the maintenance of the place was poor in many areas.

On asking for assistance from reception we were met with a completely rude & negative response. We knew the bungalows were not fully booked out but the receptionist refused to accept that any rooms were different, after much debate we were given a key to see for ourselves. The optional room was better (just) and we asked to move. No chance, he was unbelievably rude, refused to let us move, insulted us and made fun of us to over customers present.

Eventually after ruining our 1st day and spending a fortune calling the UK for asistance ( XL rep not available on Sunday on the 24 hour contact number) we got our new room. Slightly better condition, next to the busiest & noisiest car park with rock hard beds. We didn’t get any sleep but couldn’t face going through the same process with reception if we asked to be moved again.

If you have any expectations of being treated like a customer at this place – forget it!

If you do decide to accept the low standard of accommodation go self catering.

Never whatever you do book all inclusive. The all inclusive wristband is the sign of a leper, you get restricted in what you can eat, the restrictions on drinks are tighter than any other all inclusive I have been on and you get talked to like you are dirt by the bar staff.
That’s if they are there to serve you at all. Most of the time there was nobody there and after ten minute wait they came out of the kitchen where they had been cooking!, served the meals and walked off again leaving you standing at the bar for even longer.

Breakfast was the same every day and a limited selection, one day we were treated to a pile of congealed badly fried eggs all piled on top of each other in a tray. I doubt anyone ate them at all.

The 76 item snack bar menu that looks promising initially but is restricted to 20 items for AI guests, half of the 20 items are omellete & chip variations and the other half burgers & hot dogs or just two varieties of pizza.

The buffet dinner didn’t happen and we were given a choice of two / three items, none of which were every good and you had no chance of seeing what they looked like before ordering. E.g Half a baked chicken – turned up as a deep fried chicken leg and chips that was fairly inedible.

Needless to say after a couple of days of the rude attitude, bad food, argumentative staff we asked to be moved.

The bungalows are compact although you do have to hire a kettle toaster etc if you are going self catering. We took a chance on half board and was very pleased.
The only time we saw a buffet was at breakfast and the salad bar on barbeque night A menu was offered every evening and if nothing suited on the menu then they were more than happy to offer most things like pizza, chicken omelettes .if you chose a salad starter then you was also asked if you would llike a garlic bread as well, nothing was too much trouble for them. There was a free beach bus several times a day to Maspalomas beach and taxis cost very litte to go further.I would go again but avoiding the first week in Sept as this is when the local canarians all book in and spend the whole day in the pool filling them to capacity until 7 or 8 at night. "Originally we should have been going to the Parque Gaviota bungalows, but never really got a..."

Originally we should have been going to the Parque Gaviota bungalows, but never really got a clear explanation as to why we ended up at the Duna Beach. So we do not know whether this accomodation was any cheaper or more expensive.
We should have been met at Las Palmas airport but we had to wait for over half an hour after phone calls to the holiday firm on the island. But there was no problem with the return transfer.
The Duna Beach was ok as far as accomodation was concerned it's quite basic, with two rings for cooking, no kettle, we couldn't open our window in the bathroom as it was so high up we could not reach even standing on a chair. We also had a cat cafe directly behind our bungalow so we had the very friendly cats come visit us every day.
The pool is a very good size with two childrens sections, which are located right next to the main pool divided by railings so it would be necessary for young children to be supervised at all times. There was rarely a shortage of sun beds, but there were no parasoles for the beds. There is a grassed area that offeres some much needed shade under the palm trees. The poolside bar was good providing snacks and the restaurant offered a similar menu to that of most restaurants we visited. There is a supermarket on site but you need to get there early to get the fresh milk as it sells out very quickly.
There is an entertainment programme but we only stayed in for the singer who was quite good singing lots of familiar stuff from the eighties. There was supposed to be a BBQ but we never saw it happen.
On the whole it was very quiet, the music ended at about 11.30 sometimes earlier.
As for the location, we did a lot of walking (which didn't please the children)
We could walk to Playa Da Ingles in about 15/20 mins and Faro 2 in about 10 mins if we walked up the dirt track. But we usually got a cab home as we could not walk down the dirt track as it would have been hazardous and pitch black. Which meant we had to walk a lot further.
The staff were pleasant and helpful.
I would probably return to these bungalows but not with the children.

( Originally we were supposed to be going to the Maracaibo appartments in Puerto Rico, but the holiday firm collapsed, and we had just 3 days to book accomodation. Our Airline tickets were ok but the extra leg room tickets that were prebooked and paid for had to be fought for on the plane both ways as they were allocated to other passengers who had not pre booked or paid for them, and the person who needed the leg room had supplied a doctors letter in support of this.)
