The Hotel Honolulu lies in the middle of the tourist centre, only a street from the fine-sand beach of Palma Nova. Plenty of shops as well as restaurants and bars are within walking distance, only 400 metres away. The island's capital, Palma, is only 9 miles away and the nearest golf course is less than 4 miles from the hotel. Sporting and leisure facilities available to guests at the Hotel Honolulu includes a large outdoor freshwater swimming pool, with separate children's section and spacious sun terraces and gardens furnished with loungers and parasols Other leisure facilities include a children’s playground and mini-club as well as both pool and table tennis tables. The Hotel Honolulu also provides a seasonal programme of daytime sporting activities, organised each day by their resident animation team, featuring petanque, archery and aerobics as well as evening entertainment with live music, cabaret and other professional shows several times each
"After reading some of the reviews on this hotel I did not know what to expect. ..."

After reading some of the reviews on this hotel I did not know what to expect.

Hotel
The hotel itself is quite old but kept in good repair, the rooms were nice but could do with a bit of updating. The hotel is on a bit of a hill so that is great on the way down but you need to be fit for the way back up again.

Entertainment
There was not much in the way of entertainment but I would not worry too much about that as this hotel in right slap bang in the centre of Magaluf. Beside the hotel is a huge bungee rope for the not so fainthearted. The pool area is quite lively with most of the young crowd spending the days there and it’s a great place to make friends

Days out
Don’t bother with the tour reps as they are way too expensive, ask at the hotel reception as they have a company called no frills and they sell all the trips at discount prices. Especially good is their island to which is way cheaper.
Location
You could not get a better location if you want to be right in the centre of the action of Magaluf.
Food
We found it ok but there were a lot of people complaining, to me it was ok just a bit foreign.

"Before we went we where worried due to all the bad reports but people have over exagerated..."

Before we went we where worried due to all the bad reports but people have over exagerated about the hill. Yes it is a steep hill but its not a difficult hill to walk up. The hotel is clean and the bar staff are friendly the only complaint we have is that the food is the same every day, also the key drove us mad as we had to get 11 different keys during our week as they wouldnt let us in our room, its not an actual key its a card and if your mobiles and ipods interfere with it so thats how we couldnt get in our room as all our mobiles where in the safe, overall our holiday was brilliant we are in the middle of booking up for next year however we will not be returning to this hotel as none of us liked the food.

"There were about 25 of us that stayed in this hotel, me and a friend booked late and paid..."

There were about 25 of us that stayed in this hotel, me and a friend booked late and paid £550 for 1 week all inclusive in July.
We got to the hotel about 10.30-11am and the staff on reception were so rude and unhelpful, most of my friends were waiting until about 1pm for their rooms to be cleaned and the hotel staff didn't care.. every time we asked for an update they said 'don't come back before 1' so we had to put everyones suitcases in our rooms until they sorted everyone elses rooms out!

The rooms were OK, pretty basic nothing special but the views are nice of the beach. The beds were uncomfortable but we weren't there to sleep, the showers aren't great either not powerful atall. I would definately not reccomend this hotel for families or older people because good for us it was loud and that was good as they were pretty laid back with us being loud all night and morning! So if you have young kids or want a relaxing holiday I would definately say you're not gonna get much sleep! Most people in the hotel were young groups but the atmosphere is friendly.

The pool is ok just across a little road, its not that big so you have to try and get there asap to get sunbeds but most people dont come down before 11 cos they're all still sleeping! The hotel was on a hill which wasn't as bad as some people said in other reviews but still a struggle after too many beers!
The worst part of this hotel was the food! It was absolutely disgusting it made a lot of us ill! Not much selection and the same food all the time, I managed to live on chips for lunch then went out for dinner- seriously the food was horrible I had chicken nuggets that I found a bone in... a sausage which was rock hard and I just couldnt eat the food, we ended up going to a bar called eastenders on the hill most of the time for food so that was a waste of money!

The drinks are OK, but ask for no ice because the ice they give you is from their tap water so some people got bad stomachs from this so we asked for no ice even though they didnt like it! The staff are really rude if there's a queue at the bar they shake their tip jar at you to get your attention. I will say as well that if you're going all inclusive with mates and you're not 18 they wont give you an adult band to get alcohol- we ripped ours off and they gave us adult ones though. The drinks were ok loads of cocktails and local stuff, nothing like WKD, magners etc. was free but you could get drunk on the cocktails.

The location was nice because it's a 2 minute walk to the bottom of the hill to get to the beach which was really nice, and then it's like no more than a 10 minute walk to get to the nightlife which is nice cos you're not right in the middle of all the noise.

Magaluf is a great place to go if you're going for the typical booze filled holiday, I wouldnt reccommend it to families or older people although palma nova is a lot quieter! I had a wicked week minus the hotel, oh and the maids didnt actually change your sheets they just made the beds- and if you want to watch tv then none of the channels in the room work (though that didnt bother us)

So all in all I would reccommend Magaluf for people that wanna go out there and party but i'd say go to a different, cheaper hotel like the hotel samos (which was really nice and also cheap- right next to BCM too!) and go self catering or half board so you're not stuck with horrible food you paid for but cant physically stomach!

I'd give Magaluf 10/10 but the Hotel Honolulu 2/10

I just returned from the Hotel Honolulu. There are lots of steps and its situated on a very steep hill. That is the only thing that spoils the hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the rooms are a good size and the view from the balcony is amazing. The choice of food is great. Most all inc hotels repeat the food day in day out. This hotel had lots of variety and the food was lovely.

We were there 10 days and didnt get the same meal mores the pity cos they did a great shepards pie one night and chicken n mushroom pie with puff pastry in the second week. All the hotel is spotless no flys or bugs were seen. The location [apart from the hill] was excellent. Lots of bars n clubs a short walk away, were hen/stag partys staying in the hotel.

We thought oh no when we arrived, but found them to be well behaved. We went into Magaluff everynight nothing wrong with the hotel entertainment we are in our 50s so prefered live entertainment. Leepy lee was at fountain caberat bar they had elvis tribute acts on too the drag show was hilarious we will return definatley.

"Me and my mate were really looking forward to our holiday at the Honolulu hotel in Magaluf...."

Me and my mate were really looking forward to our holiday at the Honolulu hotel in Magaluf. But once there we were dreaming of going back to work!!! believe me!!! I have never seen so many idiots in one hotel in my whole life, the food wasn't even edable and if you did eat it you were on the toilet the whole next day.

The staff were absolutely useless and were no help in any way at all. One night in the entertainment room the mens toilets were flooded in about 2 inches of human excrement after numerous people complaining they still weren't cleaned at all that night.

The hotel is directly opposite to an 18-30 hotel so there is no chance of getting a full nights sleep either. If you would like a sunbed in the morning you might as well not go out the night before and get up at 7 to get one as there are only enough sunbeds to accomodate %10 of the hotel.

On the second to last day of our holiday our room was robbed they took all our money electrical goods and even aftershaves, when reporting it to the hotel they didn't even want to know we had to walk for 2 hours to the polive station at the other end of Palma Nova as we had no more money and even then we couldn't do anything as we needed a transater and you try finding someone who speaks both English and Spanish and is will to spend 2 hours out of their day in a police station with you!! It aint gonna happen!! You could get a translater for 40 euro but how you are meant to pay for that when you have been robbed is beyond me.

So basically i'm saying if you like no sleep, being surrounded by idiots, really rubbish un-cooked food, being ill, getting robbed and like to walk up hundreds of steps a day then this will be the perfect holiday.

Good Luck

"We stayed in this hotel in Aug 2008. We enjoyed it apart from one of our passport covers..."

We stayed in this hotel in Aug 2008. We enjoyed it apart from one of our passport covers going missing from behind the reception whilst in their care and numerous thefts from the rooms. I have also e-mailed the chain of HI Hotels about this and they have not replied to me.

We did have a lovely view from the room and the hotel did manage to put our room next to my daughter and her friend. The food was quite nice, always something for everyone, one evening the chef was carving a sirloin by the entrance of the restaurant which was really nice and walked around the restaurant to say hello to the guests.

It was a bit rowdy by the poolside in the daytime but people were having a good time, had to get the towels down by about 9.30am to guarantee a sunbed ! Not the place for young children or families. Hotel very close to the bars and restaurants. Would recommend you to go to the Western water park about 2 miles away and also the house of Kathmandu which was different but well worth the money.

The security of the hotel was always drinking whilst on duty or chatting up the girls. A lot of guests were in their own rooms when a maintenance person let himself in and quickly went when he saw there was someone in the room. We all found this a bit weird as peoples passports and clothes and gifts were going missing.

When these people complained to reception, the receptionists wouldnt inform the management. Its as if it was an everyday occurance. Athough we enjoyed this holiday we wouldnt book to the Honolulu again due to the thefts.

Heard lots of differant reviews of this hotel so went open minded
did get a good wellcome when arrived.
We were in a group of twelve men

Heard there was a lot of stagg and hen parties that stopped here so did not think there would be so many families stopping here.

There is no facilities for these groups ( adults )

Think the best thing is to have a few drinks free then go into magaluf and stay out till 6ish the stop in bed till dinner or go on beach as nothing at hotel

Be carfull at night coming home as friend was mugged outside hotel by local youths that hang around the front/side of hotel

Also prositutes are on the street at corner of hotel

If you just want somewhere to sleep after a night out then this is for you but for families or and other attivities then there is nothing at hotel.

"I have been to Magaluf before and love it for a girls lively holiday. The bars are great..."

I have been to Magaluf before and love it for a girls lively holiday. The bars are great but dont go out untill about ten. The beaches are lovely and the shops are varied.

HOTEL well I read other reviews and thought it was probably people moaning. THEY WERE RIGHT, HOTEL BAD The pool and bar areas are great but when we arrived they put four of us in one room on the 9th floor with no balcony, it was like a prison cell I think.

We complained and they moved us to two rooms on the 1st floor. This had a balcony BUT a hole in the ceiling, no bath plug, wardrobe door hanging off, no tv and holes in adjoining door, good job it was my friends room.

The food was very very bland and not much choice. (Yes I have been to lots of all inclusive hotels and this was the worst for food) on our last day we lost the safe key half hour before our taxi came to take us to the airport reception told me they do not have a master key and then said it would be 70 euros to open it.

I refused to pay saying we had no money and in the end they drilled it open. Go to Magaluf its great but NOT this hotel please.

This is advertised as family hotel. Basically it was 18-30's. Sexual activities taking place at the pool and on the balconies of the hotel. It is aslo situated 2 minutes walk from Magaluf where is it packed full. Cochroaches in the rooms. Drunks around the pool all day using foul language. I would not advise anyone with children to go to this hotel. I took my 8 year old daughter and did not get much sleep in the 2 weeks i was there in fear of having my room door kicked down. Machines on the landings were pushed over and alarms were set off. The staff were rude and didnt seem to take any notice of the activities that were going on. People were being sick over balconies and onto others balconies, covering towels and other items. Many people were transfered to other hotels. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. "The hotel rooms were sub standard and very small (3 sharing) not cleaned on a regular basis..."

The hotel rooms were sub standard and very small (3 sharing) not cleaned on a regular basis in need of refurbishment. The hotel would be more suitable for 18-30's than families as there was a lot of noise in the hotel at night with peolpe having parties and slamming doors. The location is at the top of the hill in magaluf and there is a considerable amount of noise from the town, although this was just back ground noise. Lots of groups of young people drinking and swearing around the pool areas and trouble involving the police on several occassions. The pool bar charges for snacks, food in resturant needs to be more varied as veal and fish were on the menu every lunch and dinner time, the snacks at night were poor quality sandwiches either coleslaw or cheese. the air conditioning in the rooms was very poor, would not go back to this hotel with children ever again. "It was my first time in magaluf and chose this hotel because of it's central location. It is..."

It was my first time in magaluf and chose this hotel because of it's central location. It is a really good hotel in a central location - you are close to both palma beach and magaluf beach and very close to magaluf strip. The hotel had a lot of families in it and quite a lot of groups of lads and lasses. The cleaner was in the room every day, gave us clean towels everyday and changed the bedding every couple of days. The food was very nice but as we were there for two weeks it did repeat in our second week. There was always a wide variety of food at all meal times. Yea it is right what people have been saying about the hill but come on its not half as big as people make out but i have to admit the stairs are a bit of a killer when its hot ... would recommend it for the eldely or any one with walking difficulties but we are young so it was alright. Ive read comments about this hotel that went at the same time as us and seen totally different things. The pool was always filled with kids therefore the parents couldn't have been too bothered about the bad language (i didnt hear much bad language coming from the people round the pool). Magaluf nightlife is amazing and its even better when your hotel is as close as the honolulu is. We will be returning back to magaluf next year and probably this hotel!! Would recommend it!! If any one has half the good time we did then they will love it!! ENJOY!! (Newcastle)

We have just returned from a week at the Hotel Honolulu in magaluf. The hotel is centrally situated, but not suitable for elderly or disabled people due to the steep climb & stairs, however this was not a problem to us. The staff were friendly and obliging. We requested a sea view when booking the holiday & were allocated a room on the roof of the kitchen with a view of the neighbouring flats ! All room doors appear to have been kicked in at some time & badly repaired and the rooms were shabby & in need of refurbishment. The restaurant was pleasant enough but there was a poor selection of food. A lot of the guests behaved like football hooligans. Swearing & shouting was common place day & night ! I would not return to this hotel again.

"The hotel was dreadful, there were big groups of teenagers using extremely foul language,..."

The hotel was dreadful, there were big groups of teenagers using extremely foul language, the pool area was not very pleasant due to the noise of the gangs. The food was okay, but did repeat often. Children were only allowed icecreams in the restaurant, they weren't allowed to take outside, therefore having to get changed from swimwear to eat and ice cream then back out to the sunshine. The bar tenders were very good and quick. The rep facilities were useless. The rooms were dirty even though maids came each day to clean, the paint was falling from the walls and the balcony doors were far from safe especially the the childrens camp beds were against them as there were nowhere else for the children to sleep. It ended up all 4 in 2 beds pushed together for safety.

The noise of other residents during the evening, being sick over balconies and showing/leaning over balconies

Not a hotel we would return to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arrived at 4 in the morning and was mortified to discover a huge amount of steps up to the hotel with no ramp it was difficult for 4 young girls to carry cases up them so there would be no hope for older people. The hotel is ideally located for the nightlife and if you happen to have a sea view and want your balcony open at night then you must be prepared for lots of singing and shouting until 5 or 6 in the morning as we didnt get in until after this it didnt bother us. The entertainment was apalling it was dragged out and of poor quality, the staff were very rude and unhelpful on numerous occassions, however the food is superb with lots of choice daily to choose from. The pool area is clean however I would certainly not take my family as it was full of stag parties who did not seem to care about their language, if I had my daughter with me I would have had to say something. We had an enjoyable holiday all in all but certainly a lively one. (Stone)

I was worrried about staying in this hotel due to bad reports I had read on the internet before we went on holiday. I have to say to anyone who is booked to stay in this hotel, don't believe all you read. Yes, the hotel is on a short steep incline, but it is not as bad as I had imagined. The hotel is clean and tidy and the staff are friendly. The food in the restaurant was excellent, the variety and the quality and quantity of food available was very, very good, the best we have ever experienced in any Spanish hotel. You would need to be very fussy to not find anything suitable to eat. The one drawback was the lack of sunbeds, and the time you had to get up in the morning to reserve a bed, before 7 o'clock. I found that ridiculous, but you felt you had no other choice, other than to join the other people doing the same thing. What annoyed me was the people who reserved beds and then didn't arrive down to their beds until 3 or 4 o'clock. It would be nice if a little bit of money could be spent on refurbishment but overall, it was a good holiday, and we would certainly go back. (Omagh)

"The hotel is close to bars, shops and beach. Hotel not recommended for the elderly or infirm..."

The hotel is close to bars, shops and beach. Hotel not recommended for the elderly or infirm due to being up a steep hill then a steep staircase of up to 30 steps (although there is a small disabled platform lift that doesn’t look safe). The bed rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment it appears that they have not been touched since my last visit around 17 years ago. The cleanliness of the bed rooms also needs to be improved with dust on the dressing table surface. Not to mention the dried vomit stained balcony wall (left from previous visitors). Also the broken casters on the beds and rickety head board falling off the wall. May be we were allocated the worst room in the hotel (who knows) just keep away from the dreaded room 110. Regarding the television do not spend £20 euros deposit for the remote cause you can operate the TV manually any way for what use it is a the only English speaking channels are BBC World and CNN (American news). The air conditioning was not up to much either with the outlet being dirty. The corridor is uncarpeted meaning that the sound echo’s especially during the night with the slamming of the doors. Shouting and foot steps. Any way on a brighter side, Most of the staff were friendly, The bar queues (if at all) were fast moving, Beer brand was San Miguel and soft drinks were Original Coca cola and Fanta. No major complaints about the food (standard all inclusive). Great news. New Spanish rulings Smoking is only limited to certain areas leaving most of the hotel Smoke Free this should apply to all hotels. The evening entertainment was great with a wide variety of shows incl Parrot’s Plate spinning also the Grease Show with most the cast being holiday makers and I give them praise for what they put into it. With bingo and top prises of more than 200 euros. The entertainment team work hard every day and night. The only let down of the hotel was the standard of the bed rooms. No customer satisfaction questionnaires from either the hotel or Direct Holidays. But all in all an enjoyable holiday. (BILSTON)
