No complaints about the Front of house and bar staff. They were all fantastic and very welcoming. Shock number 1 was being asked for a €100 deposit on arrival (normal practice for this place apparently) As we had not been forewarned about this, we were allowed to pay €50. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY ONE OR THE OTHER ON ARRIVAL!

In the week we were there, towels were changed twice, sheets never changed and cleaning was non-existent. When we left, there was still a Smartie under a cupboard that had been there since before our arrival. Dust everywhere, broken shower unit, and pee stains (or worse) down the outside of the toilet bowl from god knows when.

Hard lumps of some sort of ming in the bottom of the hand basin and Coffee stains down the front of the fridge. It even took 5 days for someone to clean a slice of tomato from the public stairwell!

We booked a 1 bed apartment as the upgrade cost from a studio was negligible. The separate bedroom (ha-ha) was little more than open plan with a glorified shower screen on one side.

Handy if you like to sit on the end of the bed to do the washing up though!

Seriously if you are a family or two couples who are looking for like a bit of privacy, look elsewhere. Also, if you like to or because of limited funds you have to self-cater, another shock awaits you. Minimalistic 2 rings, microwave, toaster, couple of pans but no oven.

Don't expect luxuries like corkscrews and spatulas. We have stayed in bigger studios, but have never stayed in a bigger pig-sty. Like a lot of others we like a cheap last minute holiday at the beginning or the end of the season, and at 3 stars we thought that the place would be OK. When we were at the airport coming home my wife was talking to a Thomas Cook rep.

When she heard where we had stayed, she just said (in a lowering intonation) 'Oh there'. Thomas Cook is a great company to travel with, and we look forward to our fourth holiday to Salou.

If the room had been cleaned properly before our arrival, we wouldn't have bothered too much about the rest of the service/inventory, but sadly this was not the case.

"The location of these apartments is brilliant as they are on the outskirts on the resorts..."

The location of these apartments is brilliant as they are on the outskirts on the resorts however this does not mean the apartments are quiet. Me boyfriend and I stayed here i would not recommend 2 couples to share an apartment as there is not a separate bedroom the kitchen living room and bedroom is all one with some wood separating the side of the bed.

The walls into the next apartment is so thin you can hear everything. From you balcony you are looking straight accross at other apartments. And for abouts 3 nights of our stay there were boys blowing very loud horns till v late at night.

There were also a group of lads in the apartment next to us that gt kicked out on their 2nd night for being too noisy and playing music to 6 o clock in the morning. Other than that brill location and apartments was just very noisy.

Staff at reception are lovely and very helpful but staff in restaurant arnt so friendly.

"I think that during our stay at the hotel it had its good points and its bad points, we were..."

I think that during our stay at the hotel it had its good points and its bad points, we were supposed to stay at a different hotel but because of the credit crunch the company we booked with went bust 2 weeks before we were setting off, on short notice the hotel was able to fit us in, this let us know how helpful the staff were.

When we arrived to the hotel we were all so excited and on a high, when we got our room keys, our room number was 003 on the bottom floor, at first i was kinda angry at the lack of view we had but i learnt that these rooms were infact the best.

I was staying in a room with 3 other girls and there was lots of clothes and there was plenty of room for our clothes and towels to hang over the walls instead of squashed up balconys.

The location of the hotel was amazing it was perfect for our lifestyle, 29 of us went and most of us wanted to party and go clubbing it was a 10 minute walk to get into the middle of all the pubs and clubs it was perfect for us.

Also the bar staff we all thought were very slow at serving is and there was no order in which they served.

Also there was a pregnant woman who came with us she was 6 and a half months on, on the day that we were supposed to return to Ireland we were supposed to get up at six in the morning and at three o'clock there was knock on the doors saying that she had went to the hospital and that she was going to have to have her baby.

The father of the baby had to stay behind for support, the hotel was very good at finding him more accommodation on such short notice, they were so helpful.

Because the baby was so small and that the labour was so risky we know that if we were in Ireland then the baby or the mother would have never survived so we owe it to The International II for the accommodation on such short notice and that they took it into their hands to call the ambulance.

5 months on the Torell and his mother is doing great.

I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE!

I really enjoy Salou as i have been there three years ago but the most dissapointing part of the holiday was our hotel. It has been, by far the worst place i have ever been in as the rooms are terrible! The rooms were never cleaned properly, our bed sheets was never changed out of the two weeks we had stayed there, we always had to track down the cleaners for toilet roll and clean towels as they never bothered to replace anything their selfs!

The whole place was just a nightmare! There was even ants crawling everywhere. We were supposed to be self catering but the facilities were useless. Most of the time we had to eat out!

The room was really crowded and can barely fit four people in it! Dont get me wrong, the staff was really friendly to me and the pool was great, but i think they should really get the rooms sorted out and get their acts together.

One things for sure, when going back to salou i will never go back to that hotel, and i certainly will not recomend it to anyone!

"WE HAVE JUST BOOKED THIS HOTEL AGAIN AND I CANNOT WAIT TO GET THERE. WE HAVE BEEN 4 TIMES IN..."

WE HAVE JUST BOOKED THIS HOTEL AGAIN AND I CANNOT WAIT TO GET THERE. WE HAVE BEEN 4 TIMES IN THE PAST AND WOULD NOT CONSIDER ANYWHERE ELSE. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION BUT FOR THE PRICE WE PAY IT IS GOOD QUALITY.

THE LOCATION IS EXCELLENT JUST THAT WEE BIT OUT OF THE HUSSLE AND BUSSLE BUT A LOVELY WALK AFTER DINNER IN TOWN.

THE NEARBY BEACHES ARE CLEAN AND LOADS OF SUNBEADS FOR HIRE, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE A LOT OF STEPS (OR A VERY STEEP HILL TO CLIMB) IT IS WORTH IT BECAUSE THEY ARE MUCH LESS CROWDED THAN THE MAIN ONE IN TOWN.

I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE STAFF, RECEPTIONISTS ISOBEL AND MANUELLA ARE BEYOND FANTASTIC AND SPEAK SUPER ENGLISH, THEY CANNOT DO ENOUGH FOR YOU AND WE ARE ALWAYS GREETED WITH A BIG HUG AND A SMILE.

THE CLEANING STAFF DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL BUT IF YOU ARE PLESANT TO THEM THEN THEY ARE MORE THAN HELPFUL, WE NEVER FOUND A PROBLEM WITH GETTING THE PLACE CLEANED OR GETTING REPLENISHMENTS OF ANYTHING, WE EVEN ASKED FOR AN EXTRA PILLOW EACH AND IT WASNT A PROBLEM.

ENTERTAINMENT IS FUN, REMEMBER YOU ARE ON HOLIDAY STOP BITCHING..THERE IS PLENTY TO DO AROUND THE HOTEL LOCATION, GREAT PUBS LIKE MURPHYS AND RAFFERTYS AND THE FOOD AT UNCLE SAMS, THE 19TH HOLE AND THE TEXAS EMBASSEY ARE SUPER.

TANDY SUPERMARKET IS THE CHEAPEST BUT THE STAFF ARE A BIT GRUFF! EXCELLENT BUS ROUTES TO CAMBRILLS AND TARAGONNA & THE TRAIN TAKES YOU RIGHT INTO BARCELONA.

"Internacional II – sorry Stalag II. ..."

Internacional II – sorry Stalag II.

On arrival hotel looked nice from the outside, walking into the reception area, things looked promising. Entered the room and it is the biggest s***hole I have ever stayed in, in my life. I would have sooner spent 2 weeks sleeping in cardboard city in the London Docklands. The room was filthy, the sheets were stained, had holes in them and smelt of p***. When you went to the bathroom you were greeted by the wondering around of poor Spanish ants, trying to escape a fate worse than death. Towels were changed 4 times over the 2 weeks and the bed linen once. Room was never cleaned, had to do this ourselves, even though our mop was full of hairs and didn’t even have a brush!!!! If you tried to warm up a bit of soup for the little one’s the electricity blew and you had to keep switching it back on by the tripper switch.

Went downstairs to drown my sorrows and came across the worst entertainer in my life, whose sole act was getting grown men up, asking them to retrieve items from ladies, (i.e. shoes, lipstick, bras) and dressing them for a competition called Miss Salou 2008, and this was supposed to be entertainment for our teenage daughter. The guy, Tom, who we nicknamed Talent less Tom and a girl Laura, could not organise a sweet club. The best part of the entertainment that night was the parrot show. Talent less Tom, promised us that after the magnificent entertainment he would take us to the local bars and get us some free shots, the only free shot I wanted from him was to put a bullet right between his eyes!!!

Women, beware!!!! There is a pervert Security Guard who woke the Mrs up at 2am and asked her to be quiet actually stating “I will be your friend if you are quiet, a real good friend”, she told him where to go and shut the door in his face. He stands around outside during the night smoking cigarettes with his mate from room 533, whilst trying to chat up young girls coming in after a night out a bit worse for wear. His mate, who does nothing but complain about other residents, talking on their own balcony, coming in from a night out or even if you fart coming out of the lift. We reported him to the manager of the hotel and our Rep (Amy H*******, Thomas Cook) who by the way was as useful as a chocolate fireplace, every time anything went wrong she would disappear like a magic act from David Copperfield re-appearing from another part of the hotel stuffing her face with the biggest ice cream I have ever seen in my life. After we reported the sad useless Security Guard, who couldn’t even get himself out of a paper bag and could do with a bar of soap, he seemed to stay clear of us and focused his attention on other poor women with children.

After all the problems we encountered, we asked to be moved only to be told we had to pay 300 Euros. They should have paid us that to stay there!!!!!

Had a boss time with the lads from South Wales in the rooms next to us, a great bunch of people.

We requested a pool view, what a view we got!!! We looked outside from our balcony only to find 5 great big bins in the street (by the way, the bin men come to empty the bins between 2 and 3 a.m. every morning, watching these was more entertaining than watching the shows downstairs)

The pool was absolutely freezing, even on a very hot day. Let’s hope you don’t need the Lifeguard, as the state of his clothing, i.e. ripped jeans that he walked on would even sink the Titanic. You would probably end up saving him.

Didn’t eat from the hotel, but what we saw you wouldn’t even give to the rats.

Went to Port Aventura, which was brill, a bit pricy when you get in for something to eat. Did not have to queue up for that long, but it was early season. Rides are fantastic, daughter (13) really enjoyed herself.

Went to Aquapolis (water park), which was a bit on the small side, but was great and even had a Seal and Dolphin show included in the price which was great.

Chippies was good and at reasonable prices, the girls there made you feel welcome. Don’t go to the Chinese on the front street, just passed Gabbers, you don’t get your meal you ordered and then they try and bill other people for what you have not had. Rosie’s Return was nice. Go and get your photo taken with the European Cup in Shankley’s Bar. Don’t go and see Elvis at Sinattra’s unless you take the words with you so he can read them whilst he is singing, Elvis would have turned in his grave, awful performance!!!! There’s a hotel opposite Shamrock’s bar, great night out, has a 3.00 am bar and happy hour. Entertainment is fantastic (Talent less Tom needs to go there and get trained up on how to entertain people!!!!).

The best part of the holiday was when we got home and the Mrs found out that she was 5 months pregnant!!!! (You were right Den) please send me the 6 winning lottery numbers for this week, I’m going to need a few quid extra now.

After arriving in Salou and being greated with one really bad apartment we were moved to the International II. It did us a favour. As they say - it does what it promises to. Basic room but when you saw what we had left it was heaven.

Really impressed with the daytime programme of events there was something for everyone - my husband even had the opportunity to get away from us for a while in the afternoon to play in the darts & pool competitions. The poolside was spotless, and had the feel of a hotel rather than apartments. Tom gives his all every day and is great with both adults and kids.

Plenty of sun beds and therefore no reason to rush. Staff at reception were extremely helpful at all time and we never had any trouble with any night time staff. Only came back at the weekend and am trying to rebook for next year.

"Salou international II room was clean and big enough for two people. Wouldnt like to be..."

Salou international II room was clean and big enough for two people. Wouldnt like to be squeezing more than that into the studio tho. Toilet was also good with an excellent powershower. When we arrived and were allocated our room, we discovered there had been a leak in the ceiling and plaster had fallen down onto the bed below it. Within 2 minutes we were allocated a new and perfect room. Entertainment at the pool was quite loud, but we found it amusing.

The nightlife in Salou is crap. Its mostly geared towards up to 18s and maybe over 50s and nothing in between. The only nightlife we really enjoyed (and was in any way lively at the start of June - salou nightlife was like a ghosttown) was Chaplins where the staff were fabulous and the entertainment was great too (keep an eye out for the VERY sweet Royston who works there).

As for the food in Salou... if you are happy with sausage and mash, or frozen burger in a bun with chips - your laughing. If however you expect to eat in nice restaurants then you have a task ahead of you to find them. Only places I would recommend in Salou to eat are the Guinness Tavern and Italiano Sorrento which is just off a side street to the apartments. The Comedy Bar is a good spot for some scrambled eggs !

Salou was very rough - nastiest place I have ever been. In the week we were there a 17 yr old english boy was knifed to death outside Kiss nightclub, and a girl was raped up the alleyway of the side of the International II. These were all kept pretty quiet so many guests hadnt heard about what was going on.

During our one week stay, three apartments (that we heard of) were broken into in these apartments. Two were on our floor (2nd) and one on the floor below us. They were using the fireescape to get into the hotel and basically pushing the door in to gain access to apartments. The apartments have no way of being locked from the inside - and there is no phone in the room to phone reception and no peephole to see who is knocking at your door.

The lithuanian guy who works security for the International also works as a rep for Sinatra's next door. On checkout he refused people their deposit (€100) back until they had cleaned out their fridge (usually leave anything that is good still in there for the cleaners who may wish to take home) and also insisted that people return to their rooms to empty their bins and take the rubbish out. And the insisting was NOT done in a nice way. There were a lot of very upset people at checkout.

I WOULD NOT GO BACK TO SALOU. ITS TOO UNSAFE.

"Arrived at apartments at 10.30am, and told room would not be ready until LATE afternoon, but..."

Arrived at apartments at 10.30am, and told room would not be ready until LATE afternoon, but we were shown a room where we could leave our suitcases. They told us to come back at around 12.30pm, and hopefully give us our room early. Which they did. They asked for a 60 euro deposit, which apparently we found out that a few were charged 100 euro's, for some strange reason. But we did get our deposit back, no problem, at the end of our 2 wk stay.
12 days out of 14 we had lots of fresh towels, and linen changed at least 3 times per week. But not once did the maids clean the bathroom/living area. So a trip to the shop for cleaning products was made. Problem solved! Entertainment in the hotel was very good. Tom and Laura kept everyone going. (Free champagne for the happiest table every night). Food in hotel was good, what we sampled. Would recommend Sinatra's, Uncle Sams for HUGE RIBS at 10.50 euros, and Texas Embassey, all close to the hotel.
Hotel situated in a good spot, away from alot of the heavy noise. But would recommend asking for 3rd floor and above.
All in all a good (very sunny) holiday, and would go back again.

International II was excellent. Lively resort with the best reps for daytime entertainment - water aerobics was so much fun. Pool was lovely and clean. We were only there for a week but the cleaners came 3 times. Reception staff couldn't have been nicer. Recommend Lanigans' for food and drink...you'll never finish the portion's. Port Aventura is a must..recommend early evneing - less q's and the lights show is amazing. Had heard really bad reports about this place but it was perfect for a yound, lively holiday. (Waterford)
