| | Comments: | Just returned from a weeks self-catering in the First Choice Holiday Village Benalmadena. The hotel is listed as 4 star by First Choice and I read reports of people doubting whether the hotal standard was worth a 4 star rating. I can confirm all in our party (3 adults 1 child) all thought it is well worth a 4 star rating 100%.
The reception area, rooms, shopping area, bars, restaurants, pool area and its own aqua park were all first class. Maid service everyday, all the hotel staff and reps were excellent. The entertainment was excellent it was just a fatastic hotel.
We have used First Choice before and will now probably try to use First Choice for every holiday. I gave them a glowing report on the end of holiday survey but unfortunatly I reported I would not return to this one again. This is for two reasons.
We were self-catering and the food prices in their supermarket were scandalous. £2.50 POT NOODLE, £2.00 TIN OF BEANS!!, £3.60 for 4 LOO ROLL need I say more, so we shopped in Fuengirola and carried it back which brings me onto my second reason. Which is the location, only 5 min to beach and first restaurant but to get to real start of the shops, bars, restaurants took us 25 mins walking past the odd seafood restuarant.
We couldnt go out twice a day cos there and back meant 25 min walk x4 and thats just to get to start of it Fuengirola is massive, we missed out on so much of it, apart from when we got the bus.
If u go the other way towards Benalmadena its about 1 and half hours walk, we know we tried it, stopped and got the bus back. So we either went out during the day or in the evening, we're not ones for staying in the complex nite and day so we were a bit restricted.
There is a bus service but we found it a bit unreliable and again taxi's about £10 per journey, well u dont want to do that £10 four times a day. So we had a combination of walking and waiting and paying for transport. They were the only two let downs the rest of it was fantastic and we had a great holiday.
If u like to stroll around your resort and are on a budget (like us) its not for u, if your All Inclusive and like to stay in or around the complex all day and nite then you'll love it.
If you've already booked to go and are reading this dont panic just take some comfy shoes relax and enjoy it, we did and it was fantastic, we just wouldn't do it again.
