The Golden Avenida Park Hotel has got a lot going for it. And we do mean a lot. Theres the location for starters. Set right in the centre of town, there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within striking distance - so youll never hear the words are we nearly there yet?. Whats more, its just a five to ten minute stroll down to the beach. And the Costa Doradas star attraction, Port Aventura, is only a short bus ride away, too. No wonder this place is such a hit with families. In fact, its so popular with mums and dads that the Avenida Suites is part of our Superfamily range. That means its got everything youll need for a family-friendly break. Think creches. Kids clubs. Drop-in dens. The works. Not to mention things like a playground, a mini-market that sells baby food and a special kiddies buffet thatll satisfy the fussiest of eaters. As to the apartments, theyve been kitted out with a few thoughtful extras like kettles and toasters to take the hassle out of a self-catering family break. On top of that, theyre all decked out in fresh, modern styles, making them light and airy. | | Comments: | May 27th - June 3rd 2008: Although Salou was not my choice (went to La Pineda a few years back and dont really like going to same/close places twice as theres so many other places to go in the world), the main reason it appealed was due to the location of Port Aventua and the Caribe Creek waterpark. Our party of 20 persons (friends and family) relly enjoyed the waterpark & Port aventura. We didnt go to the main beach, we found a small cove which was lovely & only a 15 mninutes walk away! The main shops were to be expected, the usual cheap footy shirts, tacky ornaments and so on, but fun nevertheless, plenty of bars, all english owned, plenty of 'happy hours' and reasonable prices for food, however ALWAYS check you bill, as EVERY night we ate out, it was ALWAYS wrong, no matter where we went!
Here are some good/poor points about our stay!
HOTEL GOOD POINTS
1. Good location (for town centre, beach & themeparks)
2. Clean & tidy
3. Fantastic pool areas (cold but worth it)
4. Sky tv in room (able to watch england play footy!!!)
5. Good games rooms and internet access (i couldnt resist looking on my ebay!!)
HOTEL POOR POINTS
1. Very Dangerous (out dated) room balconies. If you have children, in no way can you take your eyes off them for one minute, the metal (rusty) railings are too wide apart, in my opinion a small infant could easily clamber through! We kept our balcony doors closed.
2. The childrens main play area was too obscure from view from the pool area which meant you couldnt relax and watch, you had to go there and watch them for piece of mind.
3. The hotel shop closed on Mondays, not a major problem, but a small inconvienience! Being a self-catering complex we would have thought the shop would stay open for longer.
4. Balconies were separated by a shutter style divide, our baclony was very small, whereas adjacent rooms had wider balconies, although same size rooms, so not very well planned out!
THOMSON GOOD POINTS
1. Our party were all located in adjacent rooms on the 5th floor.
2. Our flight to and from Reus were on time and pleasant.
3. Thomson staff were polite and friendly.
THOMSON POOR POINTS
1. Having booked the hol nearly a year previous, we were disappointed not to have a pool/good view. This was a request during booking!
All in all we all enjoyed our stay at the Avenida & Salou.
