| Golden Avenida Park Hotel (Watch a video) | | Address: Pompeu Fabra, 26, Salou 43840, Spain
The Golden Avenida Park Hotel has got a lot going for it. And we do mean a lot. Theres the location for starters. Set right in the centre of town, there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within striking distance - so youll never hear the words are we nearly there yet?. Whats more, its just a five to ten minute stroll down to the beach. And the Costa Doradas star attraction, Port Aventura, is only a short bus ride away, too. No wonder this place is such a hit with families. In fact, its so popular with mums and dads that the Avenida Suites is part of our Superfamily range. That means its got everything youll need for a family-friendly break. Think creches. Kids clubs. Drop-in dens. The works. Not to mention things like a playground, a mini-market that sells baby food and a special kiddies buffet thatll satisfy the fussiest of eaters. As to the apartments, theyve been kitted out with a few thoughtful extras like kettles and toasters to take the hassle out of a self-catering family break. On top of that, theyre all decked out in fresh, modern styles, making them light and airy. A holiday at the Golden Avenida Park Hotel will leave you refreshed and wanting to return as soon as possible. | | Some of our readers photos of Golden Avenida Park Hotel / Salou

| | Comments: | A very good holiday, we would definately go back. The accommodation is pretty good, when we first went in I thought it was compact but it grows on you and it's big enough. Plenty of towels in the bathroom, adequately stocked kitchen (4 elec rings, kettle, toaster, microwave + utensils, pots etc), hairdryer in bathroom, washing line and pegs on balcony, mops, brooms and bucket if necessary. Maid service good. Good little mini-market on the premises, cheaper than some of the local supermarkets for some lines, especially mineral water 8 litre bottles. This aparthotel only takes Thomson guests, and there are loads of Thomson staff on site all the time. Kids clubs excellent, we went end of summer holidays and mine were able to go to club 2 hours a day + drop-in-den 2 hours a day, plus evening club if you want it at 3 euros per child. In addition loads of other entertainment to keep them busy - a film every day, a clown once a week, Thomson the dog reading stories, football games, etc. Shows in the evening entertainment varied, some good some a bit naff. View of the show is terrible though, if you want to watch something get down there really early for a table near the front because there are some huge pillars that obstruct the view for most of the tables. Worth going to the welcome meeting as they tell you where everything is + all the extras in the hotel (such as bookswap, launderette, indoor pool) and not too pushy to buy trips.
PORTAVENTURA: family of 4 going to Portaventura take a taxi as it's much quicker (even high season we were warned up to 45 mins wait but we only ever waited about 5 mins)and similar price. Bus 1.25 euros each for everyone aged 4 & over, whereas a taxi is 5 or 6 euros. Buses can charge more after 11pm, maybe as much as 3 or 4 euros each but we never paid more than 2.50 each. We also walked there in the evening, about 20 - 30 mins stroll and excellent footpaths, lots of people walking back after the excellent firework/laser show at midnight (get in place for a good view early as it's worth it). There is also a Land Train to/from Salou, 3 euros each and half price for kids. We got a 7 day pass online for Aventura which worked well as we didn't feel we had to rush to fit it all in. We'd go in for a few hours when it was coolest morning/evening and enjoy the sun in the afternoon. Not overly impressed with Caribe waterpark, if you want to go look out for tickets given out at exit gates of Portaventura at midnight as they allow 1 free child with 1 adult ticket. Inside they charge for lockers, sunbeds, floatables although the yellow floatables on most of the rides are free.
