About 2 hours drive from Dalaman Airport in the deep of Turkey you find the VILLA MAHAL, situated on a slope overlooking the picturesque bay of Kalkan. It is a house where you feel at home, surrounded by old olive trees and with direct access to the deep blue sea.

We travelled around Turkey staying in hotels chosen from The Small Hotels of Turkey guide. I would strongly recommend this as the hotels and food were wonderful, often having them to ourselves! In Kalkan we stayed at the Villa Mahal that has to be one of the most stylish hotels in Turkey, consisting of a series of rooms perched on cliffs several hundred feet above the bay. It can best be described as a designer or boutique hotel, and quality and style are everywhere. The rooms are extremely luxurious, the cuisine of the highest standard and sitting having dinner on the terrace at sunset one could only have a feeling of 'having made it'. The downside to this was the huge cost(for Turkey at least) of $150 per night. The hotel was most certainly worth that as there was only 1 room available for 1 night, but part of the Turkish experience for me is to be able to stay and eat in hotels and restaurants that are much cheaper than at home. We stayed that one night because of our budget and are happy to be able to say we were there. The steps down to the sea and more especially up from the sea are very challenging, so don't forget anything when you go down from your room! You can expect to have lost some weight when you come home from holiday. In short a luxurious location, and if you have the money spoil yourself!
