| | Comments: | SOl-Balmoral hotel. With the XL failure, 1st choice took over and provided flight + acommodation, transfers there and back, despite assurances, only choice bribed the coach drivers.
On arrival 11.30pm no food provided, other fully inclusive hotels Egypt and Turkey I have stayed at with the wife and less expensive, provided a healthy selection of foods and kept the staff on to serve, this did not happen here, received small glass of welcome juice!
Self service for foods:
Foods cooked in my opinion, as an Environmental Food Safety Officer, I did question the handling practices seen, cross contamination and under cooked foods! I had to say to the head chef one breakfast to wash his hands as cracking raw shell eggs wiping hands on a cloth that another person was seen handling baked breads was not hygienic!!
The majority of very mature people staying here were 60 plus, and this sort of disregard may have/had serious consquences as salmonella/campylobacter can kill the very young and the very mature, ending up possibly in hospital or worse.
The food hall is small with the amount of persons being served, location of the tea machine, bread and soups (busy)1 bread knife and cutting board ? were just set back from the entrance door, a good combination of poor planning as hot liquids passing through this way collisions with pepole, no accidents seen, but a matter of time!
Spillages round this area were not cleaned up quickly enough, yellow hazard signs were provided, and these added as an attraction for children to play with? Children were informed not to serve themselves, one girl wanted chips and burnt herself as she leant her arm over the hot container, food very English style and varied.
Drinks, all free and as much as you can humanly drink, large measures and plenty of it.
Rooms:
clean and depending what you get, a proper double bed or bunk beds as one mature group got!!
No tea/coffee facilties inside room for the early morning cuppa?could be done cheaply if cost is an issue? no fridge, but his would only heat up the room and the ceiling fan and yourselves would not cope. Humidity was high due to rain.
Noise, the small blocks fair better than the main block of 7 floors. One person described they could hear people snoring!
Main (only dinning area)
The seating areas (dinning)are a free for all. The seating areas for inside(rained most of the time)area mixture, very warm when full as no adequate ventilaton of area. Entertainment for children good, adults ? TV room (smoking room not ventilated)projector screen shows only out dated sports, no cartoons on large screen or any children films or films rated for family viewing?
Summary:
I am sorry to be so negative of the hotel, as such a beautiful island, the staff are good and cleanliness of apartments etc good. The large first pool clean, but busy! I do suggest hiring a car and venture out, some very beautiful coves, clean warm sea and sand.
I suggest the owners re-organise the eating area and get professional help sorting out the issues I have spoken about is, as i fell the a tip of the iceberg.
I did not enjoy the hotel, but I would consider all reviews as I did, and still went.
I personally would not go back to that hotel, but you get what you pay for.

All these observations are made without malice and are only my opinion of what I saw at the time.
