| | Comments: | This is a fantastic and friendly hotel and one that was recommended to me prior to booking our wedding and honeymoon there. We couldn't have asked for anything nicer, the gardens were lovely, the watersports were superb, they have their own equestrian centre, golf course and resident turtles (the ones over 150 years old). The beach was spotless (coral mainly dead though so snorkelling not great) and the waiter service was really good. The wedding co-ordinators were excellent at their job and helped make our wedding day really special. We married in a gazebo on the beach at 4p.m. followed by a sunset cruise on a yacht and dinner in 'Mon Desir' the hotels top restaurant in the evening. The food was excellent, however wine a bit steep i.e. Jacobs Creek was on the list at £40 (£40 being the cheapest on the list), so be careful and make sure if you're going to spend alot on wine you know its a good one!
Now food...the food on the whole was really good, they have a buffet in the main restaurant each evening serving mainly Creole food which is similar to Indian although not as spicy. This gets a bit wearing after a while. You can eat there too for lunch or at 'La Maree' which is a lovely restaurant on the beach with the waves lapping up. Lunch at La Maree is part of A/I, but you have to pay at night, you do get credits if A/I, but its still steep if you don't have house wine. One choice of red or white house wine only on A/I and neither are very good.
We had a Deluxe room which was nice but not as good as expected. The decor was a bit dated and the bathrooms were really tiny. The mini-bar wasn't cheap, but they never are. Rooms were spotless though, the maids did a super job.
Evening entertainment same as any A/I holiday, in our opinion starts off OK and then becomes too samey. Its just not our scene. Usual caberet evenings, (I'm sure you get the picture).
Mauritius is a beautiful, cultural place and the people are the friendliest we have ever come across on holiday. I would definitely recommend Mauritius and The Maritim, we will certainly go back. (A couple we met have already booked to go back in 08 for their 1st anniversary).
