| | Comments: | I visited the Gambia both in 2008 and 2009 i was meet with a smell of damp and mildrew.....on both occassions. A poorly decorated room the aircon was paid for and it was very hit and miss. The electric kept going out, they not seem to have a gernerator. The phone in my room was not connected.
The toilet leaked and after 2 atemps to fixed it ( removing the bowl and replacing it it than stop leaking. It soon became apparent this was a regular fault.
The bumsters were more than annoying, they hang around the hotel harrassing the tourist day and nighr not allowing you to walk on your own.
I never eat in the resturants as I found the food of poor quality.....and too expensive. The have a limited menu....with no desserts although the staff was helpful, it was like the reinvention of the wheel sometimes. A lot of men doing what is usually considered woman work chamber maids.....put flowers in your bed was slighly uncomfortable.
The begging from staff and bumpsters a like was annoying. I felt that Gambia market proverty, I was an easy target as a female of carribbean decent with drealocks i was clearly a curiosty.
The fruit sellers some of them where quiet hostile wanting business to give massages on the beach with very little regard for privacy. Or plait your hair.
I enjoyed the morning run with a chaperone, on the beach I would go again as i now know what to do to avoid attention.
Kombo was once a lovely hotel but there are lots of signs of neglect and they now have a casino on site.....to keep the tourist in the hotel.
No money changing facilities in the hotel, no cash point. The breakfast was very good.
