Cant explain how great this holiday was it was just a trip of a lifetime and turned out even better than expected. The hotel was superb, just off a main road about 15 mins walk from the star ferry and about an hour by bus (about 12 pounds uk)although up a steep hill so not recommended for the elderly for the rest its quality and with a top night club just opposite about 10 yards down from there its ideal for those with plenty of energy.

Was only there for 5 days a few months before the break out of the sars virus and was taken over by the friendlyness of the people the lack of graphity on walls and lack of outside drinking which we have so much of here in the uk.

The smell of food as appearant all around the place and adds to the atmosphere, eating is cheap if you go local but gets more expensive if you venture to the various american themed places. I would suggest having a walk around getting to the know the area your hotel is situated in weather on the mainland or in the busy central parts and crime seems non existaint with the police carrying guns clearly visable its no suprise!

Everything is cheap compared with the uk and anything clothing related is well worth a 2nd look, on the first night on arrival on xmas eve around 11pm alot of shops were still open and silk ties were 120hk for 5! and good quality to also if you after a suit any kind its well worth getting one there but look around as there are many who will stop you in the street and take you to taylors in the local area and it can get on your nerves but be strong and tell them on a need to know basis or you'll regret it. This is very appearant around the star ferry terminal.

If your confident enough as most signs are in English aswell as chinese Like we did try and find out before hand places to visit like ocean park, the peak aberdean (fishing village on the main island) and do it yourself local travel is very cheap! taxis are variable depending on where you go and area you get one, but star ferry is amazingly cheap I think about 12p(uk) for a trip to the main island. Ocean park is an absolute must the main fish tank is frightningly big plenty of other rides although not upto uk standards but makes up for it with everything else the sky ride that takes you over from the start of the park to the other side takes a good 15mins atleast but the scenerary takes your breath away. seeing the ocean and islands and some boats as you past.

Makes you wish you had a camera with better zoom.

We did this trip on a planned excersion as we could leave the hotel later as are flight didnt leave untill 11pm local time, we should have gone are own way as it cost us about 60uk pounds and would have cost less than half had we made are own way. wouldnt have had the time restrictions either as we had to be back for 4pm for the bus back to kowloon.

The peak is another must as alot of what you see on the postcards of the area are taken from this point, the backdrop of huge scy scrapers ect are taken from here. you can go higher and there are ride ect at the top but you have to pay what we thought was a bit much as you can be taken another 100 foot or so higher but for the extra cash we didnt think it was worth the hassle.

All in all a great holiday and definatly do it again, only regret is not having longer to stay and bring more money, took 500uk but spent about 800 total. one big tip take very little like 2/3 days clothes and buy everything while your out there, you wont regret it although watch the bagage allowence from the uk its 30kg and I had to pack more into my backpack as i went over the limet :-D

Id also get your films developed out there to as if you shop around can get considerable discounts compared with the uk.
