| | Comments: | We spent the last days of our Egyptian tour at Sharm in hope of some rest and recouperation. Due to reservation problems we were 'upgraded' to a villa. This villa was a disappointment due to the lounge or living area which was completely empty of furniture leaving us as a family to sit on the beds in our bedrooms. Further the patio area had no privacy and had to be shared with our neighbours. It also had no funiture apart from one small table bearing a full ashtray. The patio itself was dirty. After discussion with the reception manager other and more 'complete' accomodation was found for us the following day.
Further, due to the reservation problem we had to pay for our stay ourselves. This was not such a problem but the obligatory Gala dinner was. If we wanted to stay at the resort we had to pay for the Gala at $130 per adult (and our 13 year old daughter was regarded as an adult)and $65 for our other daughter of 11 years. It was 'sold' to us with the additional information that at the Gala all alcoholic drink were 'free' until midnight. In reality the only drinks that were 'free' were all Egyptian produced and in our opinion not of the standard that we are accustomed to, in short undrinkable. My husband doesn't drink alcohol and naturally nor do my daughters. The Gala, held in a large tent, was a raucous affair. It was cold and windy. The food ordinary as was the entertainment. We left early. We are intending on investigating on the legality of forcing guests to pay for a dinner they do not want to have!
Finally, we chose to book a horse riding trip into the desert for two hours via the activity centre on the beach. This turned out to be a two hour ride along side the airport, through construction sites to a beach and then back again - at €55 each it was a complete rip off.
All in all, for our personal taste, we found the Sheraton resort much too big and definitely not of five star quality, certainly not the quality that we are accustom to. Our stay was mediocre.
