This endearing hotel is located directly in the tourist centre surrounded by scores of shops and other entertainment venues. It is just 300 m to the magnificent sea, beach and the Vilamoura marina and 200 m to public transport connections. | | Comments: | The Hotel Dom Pedro is definintely not a 4 star hotel. Although you couldn't fault the cleanliness, the rooms were not very appealing - very dull and brown in colour beds creaked just by the slightest movement.
Bathrooms in need of an overhaul, small bath with shower which was only the right height for a child!! Old dated taps, and a shower curtain instead of a screen. The towels were also brown in colour and far from luxurious - like drying with sandpaper! Our room although having a sea view (this was after we'd been moved) was very noisy at night due to the fact that the sliding doors served no purpose at all exept to keep the air out. It was like sleeping wth the doors wide open. People leaving the casino/club opposite at 6-7 in the morning were clearly heard. There is also a one way road about 100 metres from the hotel.
The area around the pool is extensive and well maintained. Lots of beds and no parasols as there are plenty of large trees or palm trees for shade which was nice. The pool itself was in need of a good clean. You only occasionally saw staff with the pool net and the sides of the pool didn't look like they'd been cleaned for years & by now needed a good scrub.
Despite all this the staff were friendly and willing to help. Our maid was lovely and our room was always very clean and fresh. However I would not choose this hotel if you want 4 star all round.
Vilamoura is great with a lovely marina, restaurants and bars. Try restaurant Pipa Rota just behind the marina in one of the courtyards where there are more restaurants other than that on offer in the marina.
