| | Comments: | Venice, what a place. May I suggest that you go off the tourist routes, and just go wondering. We had with us two small maps, with the main street names, which we proved was enough even when getting lost!
The hotel is a good 25/30 minutes from the centre of Venice (bus station), but had good links and a regular service into nearby Mestre (Venice main land). Make sure you check your travel links from the hotel to centre of venice, as we spent the first evening trying to get our bearings... The hotel itself was very clean, quiet, with helpful & informative staff, who even smiled through me trying to speak Italian to them, even though most of them can speak basic English.
If you go in March when we did, check the weather before you go, as our first day was sunshine, but 3 days later we woke up to snow!
We went for 4 nights and this gave us time to have a good wonder round, selecting nice places to eat at a reasonable price. May I suggest don't bother about the 'Touristic' menus, as by the time your bill comes we found it was usually only around 20 euros less than the normal menu. Plus the service is better if you pay full price.
Enjoy the sites and views of what Venice has on offer, don't get stuck in the main tourist areas, and take a boat ride or two, we found this one of the best ways to see the sights.
