| | Comments: | Just had a wonderful week at the Principe Palace in Jeselo Lido on the Venitian Riviera.
Quite simply the best Hotel I have ever stayed at !!
Don’t bother going here if you like hotels that try to serve up English meals to stop those that go overseas (who would be better off going somewhere in UK) from moaning about lack of chips or fish fingers for the kids. The food here is the real deal and if you look at their website and the video of the dining area, I guarantee that what you see is what you get, The Manager Max often eats in the restaurant with you to make sure everything is up to standard (I would say, looking at him his standards are high!) We only ate away from the hotel once and then that was only because we went to Venice for the day, There was no point as the food was so good, plentiful and varied we doubted that you would get better in any of the local restaurants. The local speciality night was the only night you did not get a menu to choose from, but do not despair the food was out of this world and something for everyone and I am a picky person that does like not having a choice.
The room we had was always very clean and serviced daily to a very high standard. Our balcony, though small was adequate for sitting on and watching the life in the Piazza Mazzini below and having a glass of wine or beer. You would often see the Manager stood out on the Piazza looking proudly at his hotel and checking that all was well no doubt.
The pool was on the roof with lots of sunbeds and umbrellas in sunny and shady spots. The pool bar was well run and the food again was to a high standard from what I saw of it, but to be honest with what we had for breakfast we didn’t need lunch!
The hotel staff were all top class and so very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. You could tell that it mattered to them what opinion you took away with you and that you had a great stay with them.
The resort is a shoppers paradise with miles of shops I know chaps the boss had me walking up and down them a few times (Get a hotel bike and do it the easy way like I did in the end they are free to use!) Go to the Laguna shopping centre by the bus station the shoe shop does have some very nice shoes and sandals and not so expensive as the nicer of the shops by the hotel.
The hotel Principe Palace is only about 100 metres away from a lovely golden beach that is also kept very clean and tidy with plenty of toilet facilities and showers
You can go to Venice for 17.8 euros return by bus (No.5) and boat all included and the Tabac across the Piazza will sell you the tickets, get the water bus ticket at the same time to save even more money as it is quite expensive for tickets in Venice. We decided not to go with the holiday tour rep as it was over twice the price and you had to do what they had planned for you, you really don’t need a guide there and you can stay as long or as short a time as you like. Likewise the trip to Treviso only cost us about 6 Euros to go on the bus and is well worth doing. I think the holiday tour operator was charging 6 times that!!! Hey it is only a bus ride and once you are at the bus station it is all so easy as the girl there speaks perfect English as most in this region do.
My tips are:-
Eat at the hotel, the food is great!
Use the hotel bikes to go shopping locally
Use the buses to visit the markets, Venice and Treviso.
Use the Travel Rep to go further a field if you want to go to Verona or the likes (though you can get a train from Treviso)
Keep the wife or girlfriend away from the shoe shop next door to the hotel.. Ouch!!
