| | Comments: | A beautiful location, but a poor hotel. Meant to be four star, but have my doubts. Looks impressive as you approach the hotel, but once inside, forget it.
When booking the tour operator was informed that we couldn;t have a room upgrade with balcony, but could have a terrace room. Big mistake! It's like going underground! We won't mention the lurid 70s style green carpet! Room was full of ants, so we asked to move. Sent to room along the corridor, stank of cigarette smoke, air con broken, hole in the wall and wires dangling down. Complained again, told nothing could be done until morning when manager was in.
Next morning we refused to stay in the dump a minute longer, and after demanding to see our rep, were 'miraculously' given a room with a balcony. This was better, thoguh still not really up to 4 star.
Food was awful. They were very proud of the restaurnat, but it was nothing to write home about. Service was slow, often taking an hour and a half to be served a full meal. Not good if you have children!
Drinks were very expensive, though found Garda to be expensive in general.
Riva is beautifula nd the scenery is stunning. It's worth taking a boat ride down to the south of the lake. The fast boat takes nearly 4 hours, but the scenery changes so much you have to go to appreciate the differences in landscape.
We visited the Dolomites too, that was a brilliant trip and one I wouldn;t hesitate to reccommend.Verona was also nearby - fantastic and a must.
All in all, a beautiful area, but a naff hotel. We actually stayed at a 2 centre holiday. First week in Lido de Jeselo near Venice, at Principe Palace. This hotel was exquisite and I would reccommend a stay here and travel to Garda instead. | |
