| Nastro Ozzuro (Watch a video) | | Address: Via Nastro Azzurro 20 | Piano di Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento 80063, Italy
The Grand Hotel Nastro Azzuro is located in an enviable position between Sorrento and Positano, offering spectacular views of the peninsular. The hotel consists of two separate buildings linked by a small path leading through pine trees and gardens. The main Nastro Azzuro hotel building houses the resorts facilities, the Occhio Marino block has superior rooms. | | Please send in your pictures of this resort or hotel

| | Comments: | | The Grande Hotel Nastro Ozzuro is a 3 star hotel pretending to be a four star hotel. The bedrooms are large and nicely furnished, however the size of the bathrooms were a disgrace - ours was around 4 foot square with a tiny shower stall, when I decided to complain I realised ours was one of the best rooms! The distance from the Hotel to Sorrento is about 8km with no decent bus service, so basically you are standed 1/2 way up a mountain and totally reliant on the hotel for their shuttle bus - which you have to book in advance and pay for in the evenings. The shuttle bus timetable is frequently inadequate for the number of people requiring transport to Sorrento, or not running when you want to travel, if you miss your slot you are just stuck at the hotel because the cost of a taxi into Sorrento is about 30 euros one way! In fact the hotel is nearer to Positano in distance which is just as difficult to get into. The staff were the nicest jobsworth we have ever encountered, smiling pleasantly to advise that poolside towels were 'Finished' at 3 oclock when the pool is open until 6 oclock. 'Sorry' when the daily paper order has yet again not arrived. 'Finished' when currency exchange was needed because they had run out of money. 'It is not conveneient' when we asked to settle our bill on the afternoon before our very early morning next day departure. 'No more' when tables outside on the restaurant balcony were not available after 8 oclock because it meant someone had to re-lay them if they were already used, etc etc - I think you get the picture! These kind of things can ruin your holiday but because they were so frequent, and in many cases ridiculous our family decided to laugh them of and just try to enjoy the holiday anyway. The pool was located higher up the mountain via a steep path or steps. It is decent size and nicely laid out with plendy of sunbeds, however the poolside was often windy in the afternoons as there was no protection from the winds blowing off the hillside, and this made the water very cold some days. The Toilets at the pool were not cleaned frequently enough and the hotel toilets were to far away down the mountain to use !The Pool resteraunt was expensive, as was the bar inside the hotel - we found cheaper prices for the same drinks in a bar located on the main piazza at Sorrento. The hotel did not sell any snacks, so lunch at the poolside consisted of obtaining a table at the restaraunt and waiter service from the Lunch menu. This hotel is not suitable for the elderly, anyone who is particulaly sensitive to mosquito bites (Hillside location + hotel gardens and evening mist = many mosquitoes!) or families (No childrens entertainment of any kind or reduced prices for childrens meals) or people who don't like to plan their holiday day schedule in advance by booking space on a bus or eating early to get a table with a view etc. The best thing about the hotel was the quality of the food, which was excellant, which was just as well because there were no local bars or restaurants with walking distance. We did enjoy our holiday inspite of all of the above because the Sorrentine Peninsular is a fantastically picturesque and historical place to visit, but in hindsight a hotel in the Centre of Sorrento would have suited us better. Next time I will check the small print regarding the accomodation location more carefully. (Birmingham) | |
