Comments:
This is our 3rd visit to Turkey in the past year. It was the first visit to Turkey for our friends. Stopped at Topkapi Palace last summer, which was great although the hotel was starting to look a little tired. The CV Sorgun Select last Easter, which was also great, especillay for a sporty teanage boy. However, I must say that none of them compared as well with us as the Hemera. This hotel is a lot smaller than the others, but as it has just been refurbished, it totaly outshone the rest. We stayed in a standard room, with a shower, overlooking the pool, which had a hugh balcony. Only complaint would be that the bed settee for our son was a little on the small side for someone who's 5'11'' Our neighbours and their children (Twins, who are our sons best friends) who we met up with when there, travelled the week before us, had booked a 2 bedroom apartment. It slept 5 and was really spacious.

Food was well cooked and hot in main restaurant, although as you always find, a little repetative after a while. The A la Carte restaurants are well worth a visit, especially the international. You book these through the guest relations representative in the hotel lobby, in advance. It was so very civilised in comparison to places where you have to ring a certain phone number each morning to make a booking(when you usuallay don't get through).

The beach/snack bar is where we took our lunch. There was a good variety, from Pasts/Pizza dishes, soups, huge salad bar, baked potatoes etc. You just couldn't go wrong. However, my husbands not a big salad eater, but my friend and I managed at least two courses at lunch, with the excuse 'but its only salad!). Needless to say we ate a lot.

Service was also excellent. However, not so much waiter service for drinks as most people tended to go to the bar for their own. Bar staff worked their socks off though. Don't forget to tip. Nevertheless, each morning water or juice was offered around the pool, by waiters, followed by melon in the afternoon. This was also the case if you had a sunbed on the beach. These little touches were well appreciated. Fresh beach towels daily and as you would expect changed daily in your bathrooms, Bed linen also seemed to be changed very frequently.

Entertainment. Daily pool program keeps you busy, if you're into that sort of thing. The animation team made a great effort and I really don't know when they slept. Night time entertainment wasn't up to much though, (usully a show brought in) , but we made our own entertainment so this did't bother us. Plenty of watersports available on the beach at a cost but its not too expensive (I went paragliding). The pedalos are free if you show your hotel card. Whitewater rafting is also supposed to be a great laugh, although it is quite an ordeal getting there I believe. If you book independently, there are also further small costs on the way which you would have thought were in the price.

If you do fancy a change there are plenty of bars across the road, as well as Oxyd, which is a nightclub, as there isn't one on site. There are also plenty of shops selling fakes of every variety. My son and his friends bought a couple of T-Shirts each, which they haggled down to £3.00 per item, which may I say have washed an awful lot better then some which cost me £20 or more. Side old town is a must when your here. You may get hassled to look in the shops, but this summer was no where near as bad as Easter. I believe that the Police and local council no longer tolerate this sort of behavior. We did want to get in and see the Ampitheatre and on our way round the ruins to find an entrance, my friend was roped into following some chap, who instisted he show us. It did cross out minds when we would be getting mugged, but he did show us a most spectacular view over the Roman Library, which is on the Town Beach. However to get rid of him, it cost our friends 10 Euros, because by this time my husband, son and I had sloped off.

It was evident during our stay at the Hemera that people visit this hotel year after year. It was mentioned in our first week that it could have been percived as a little 'clicky' but as time went on this was certainly not the case and our son had made plenty friends which kept him company when our neighbours went home. He's still chatting to these new friends on MSN.

The only downside I would say about the Hemera is the sunbed issue. Its not the Germans but the English. The hotel did not have any clear cut rules on this even though signs did state that sunbends should not be reserved. Towels were on beds at 2am some nights and there were at least three incidents of towels being thrown in the pool, our second week. So if you want a bed round the pool, set your alarm for abount 6am, or you can go to the beach at anytime where there are always beds available. You must also bear in mind that smoking is permitted in most areas. As non smokers who have been enjoying the ban in the UK, we found this a little irritating, as we would have done where ever we had gone.

We will be returning to Side shortly, as we have bought an appartment in the Kemer area, that will be completed by November. However, we will be trying to book this hotel for a week later this year, so we can finalise our apartment ready for next year.
