Comments:
Istanbul is a huge city and needs at least 3 nights as an absolute minimum but plenty to do for longer. The Hilton is a beautiful hotel and does a lovely breakfast but the bars are very expensive and the location is in New Istanbul quite a way from the old centre, however Dolmabace Palace is quite close and taxis into the centre are very cheap. Shopping is legendary and well deserves its reputation. The Grand Bazaar closes at 6.30pm and does not open on Sundays. As two women we were pestered constantly and it did get very irritating. Visit the Blue Mosque in the morning as it closes for prayer at 12.30. Topkapi is fairly pricey at £7.00 but it is worth it as this will take all afternoon. The harem tour is a further £7.00 and well worth seeing. We also crossed to the Asian side which is less interesting but a cheap and pleasant boat trip.
