| | Comments: | This hotel was ideally suited to families with children under 10. The childrens reps were enthusiastic and tried hard and my children enjoyed the cheesy entertainment thoroughly whilst we adults enjoyed a relaxing bottle of wine in the bar, so if that is what you'd like from a holiday then this hotel is ideal.
The hotel was clean and the maid service excellent. The hotel is obviously not a 5 star hotel but was clean and suited our needs. We had a small ant problem but is to be expected in hot countries and the hotel dealt with this promptly and efficiently and the ants were not seen again!
The lift is a bit unpredictable but we found it no real hassle as we were never rushing about and you can always use the stairs!
The pool was good with a small area for little ones and although signs said no inflatables, people did use them but this did not bother us as the clientelle of the hotel were all very pleasant when we stayed, there were lots of families and children. There were loads of sun beds and these were always covered by towels by the time we had got up for breakfast but despite this we never had a problem getting one when we wanted to sit by the pool.
The hotel staff were very helpful although the reps for Thompsons were unknowledgeable, sending us to the wrong bus stops and overcharging us for excursions because if you visit Marineland then children under 4 are free and yet Thompsons had charged us for our child so we had to ask for a refund. Wouldn't really recommend the excursions because you can do it cheaper by yourself. We visited the zoo ourselves for far cheaper than the excursions through the hotel cost.
The beach is a gritty sand beach but did not bother us at all because the sea was lovely and the weather great. The beach is very clean and has volleyball, football and watersports. There are various play areas for litlle ones dotted all along the beach.
Calella is not a particularly picturesque place. It has lots of shops and a nice beach but is a bit built up with a train line running along the beach and some busy main roads but the train line means places can be visited easily and cheaply like neighbouring resorts such as blanes and lloret de mar. It was an ideal base for a few days on the beach relaxing and a few day trips out.
The Hotel food was great and varied and buffet style so if you didn't like something you could always try something else. There was always something for the kids to eat and the desserts selection was great.
All in all we had a great holiday at this hotel although the resort itself could have been nicer. The hotel does also have a derelict hotel next door which is a bit of an eyesore and two blocks of buildings in front that are half built, although no building work was taking place when we went so this was not a problem. If you want a beautiful view from your hotel then this is not the one you should choose but it didn't bother us. For the price we paid this holiday was good value for money and if Calella had been nicer then we would definately go back to the hotel. (keighley) | | | First | Previous | Next | Last | |
