A quiet hotel with residents mainly from Scandinavia: Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden. Apartments with bedroom, living room and a patio that opens directly to the large swimming pool.
There is a boring 200-300 metres walk through a sunburnt field to Ayia Napa's main street, over 1 km to the shopping quarters, a 20-minute walk to the beaches, and 2-3 kilometres to the club district. In that sense the location is not the best possible. Some of the residents seemed to be retired Scandinavian couples that spend a few months in Fedra. For that purpose it must be a nice choice.
The worst thing was definitely the bad hygiene. In Cyprus you are not allowed to put toilet tissue in the toilet seat - you should throw them into a garbage can instead. That should have been emptied daily but it really wasn't. Towels were old, worn and changed only twice during our one-week stay, and so was the bed linen.
I also got quite familiar with cockroaches. There are double mattresses in the rooms, and between the mattresses there resided quite a few of them. These were brown, not very big but very fast and.. well, disgusting. The same cockroaches had quite a party also in the bathroom. Yuk!! Then in the kitchen sink there were much bigger, actually huge, black cockroaches - almost twice the size of a matchbox. In the evening there were dozens of these big black ones by the swimming pool.
The small kitchenette was not good at all. The gas cooker didn't work properly and there was not room to do almost anything.
These were the bad things about Hotel Fedra. The good thing was that the hotel was very quiet, the swimming pool area was cosy, and the staff was friendly, though a bit indifferent. (Helsinki)

Ayia Napa lies on the east coast about 26 miles from the airport at Larnaca. This was once an old fishing village that has given way to the tourist, and is now the biggest resort on the island. A massive amount of hotel and apartment accommodation can be found here, with everything from simple B&B's to the more extravagant. The two beaches are made up of good quality sand, and have nearly every type of water sport available. A good variety of shops will cater for all your holiday needs, and there's plenty of them to choose from. But it's at night that this destination really comes alive, as numerous bars, tavernas and discos spring into life, and the only escape from the noise, is a walk up the far end of the harbour.
An abundance of restaurants, and enough fast food outlets to satisfy all tastes, can be found as you stroll the resort centre. As with most popular European destinations, there's plenty of Burgers, Kebabs, Fried Chicken and Pizzas on nearly every pub and bar menu, and all served with as much chips as you can eat. In the more traditional eateries, local dishes such as Meze and various locally caught Fish specials are well worth a try. Local beers are as good as you'll find anywhere, and the Brandy, especially Brandy Sours, are virtually given away as the island makes it's own.
