| | Comments: | My friend and I holidayed in the Best Benamaldena 9th -16th July 2008. We are two 60 year olds who holiday together without our husbands for one week every year. We booked the holiday on the internet through Travel Republic and also transfers. When we arrived in Malaga Airport, we had to wait 30mins in the boiling sun to be met by our taxi who informed us he also had another couple to take.
They were not small people and we struggled to get us all in the taxi, the luggage was hanging out the boot, much to our dismay. This we thought was unreasonable as we paid £34 per couple for this transfer. The Hotel itself is very nice and we had a lovely room on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool. We were not given any information on arriving about the fully inclusive board that we had paid for and struggled to obtain information from the Spanish speaking staff who spoke very little English.
We eventually found the dining room and were pleasantly suprised to find a good selection of food, which I may add over the week became quite boring, but it was wholesome food and there was always plenty of fruit and salad and lots of lovely fresh bread. The hotel was nearly full to capacity of Spanish holidaymakers and there was only about six other English people whom informed us of the gate to the beach and where to get snacks etc. as there was no information displayed anywhere in the hotel.
The all inclusive drinks were amazing as they were branded i.e. Bacardi and Gordons, Baileys and Martini. I have never been to an all inclusive hotel before where branded alcohol has been served. This was fine if you could actually get a drink. The bar was always staffed with three or four barmen but only one would be serving at any one time and the queing system was who could shout the loudest. Spanish customers always got served first over everyone else and this was very annoying.
We went to the market In Arrayo which is a small village up in the hills, well worth a visit. We walked, it nearly killed us, get a taxi or the bus. Buses cost 1.30 euros to Torremolinos one way and Fungerolla in the opposite direction. Both well worth visits. Also the cable car, get a bus to Tivoli World, the cable cars are nearby, this was an amazing experience. A walk, (or a hike) down to the Marina in the evening is a must, it is absolutely breathtaking down there.
We just sat and people watched for hours down there it is very entertaining and there is some lovely bars. Take a trip to Nerja Caves also, this is worth a vist. All in all we had an enjoyable holiday but I do feel the hotel need to cater for English people more adequately, all the entertainment was in Spanish and a couple of receptionists who could converse properly in English when you arrive would be a great help.
