General Information
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary islands, and it's varied landscape embraces desert scenery, barren cliffs cut by deep gorges, mountains and fertile tropical valleys. Las Palmas is the islands capital and major port. 17 miles to the south is the airport, linked by a good motorway network, and it is in the southern region that you will find most of the best beaches, as well as the famous Maspalomas sand dunes. A circular volcanic island, it now erupts with modern resorts where you can scuba dive, play golf or just enjoy the varied and friendly night life the cafe bars can provide
Local Food
Canary Island cuisine reflects Sanish, Portuguesse and North American influences. No trip here would be complete without a visit to a traditional 'tapas' bar. These bars offer you a variety of small tasty dishes to try. Popular dishes include 'pimentas de padron' (chilli pepers) and a variety of delicious cheeses.A great choice of friendly bars and reastaurants ensure the all year round tourist trade has plenty of options when it comes to eating out.
