General Information
Ibiza is the third largest of the Balearic Islands, and lies about 60 miles off the mainland, and approximately the same distance off Majorca. With a predominantly rugged coastline that houses several sandy coves and beaches, it is only 25 miles long and 14 miles wide. In recent years it has been attracting predominantly young and lively holidaymakers drawn to the main tourist areas like San Antonio and Ibiza Town. In land, there are fruit orchids and pine woods to be found, and the airport is about 5 miles south-west of Ibiza Town
Local Food
In Ibiza you can find a wide variety of fast food restaurants and English, German and Italian fare, but why not sample the wonderful variety of local Balearic dishes. Much of the best cooking is made from simple, local ingredients. The olive oil is of an exceptional quality and is used in many dishes. Some local specialities to look out or: Pan con tomate (toasted bread with pulped tomatoes and olive oil), open sandwiches made with local cheese and Sobrasada (local sausage), Sopa Mallorquinas (vegetable stew). Seafood is in abundance here, there are lots of fish dishes to try; Bullit de peix (fish stew) and Caldereta de langosta (fish casserole) to name but a few. On the mainland the practice is to eat free tapas whilst you drink but here you will be expected to pay for the privelage. Can Rich is one of the most popular wines produced here.
