General Information
The Costa Del Sol covers 100 miles and includes 24 sandy beaches, several large resorts the most famous being Torremolinos and Marbella. Set on a backdrop of mountains running along most of it's length, the sun coast is a well developed tourist area, extending along almost the entire Mediterranean coast of Andalucia. Popular with the British holidaymaker since the 1960's, it was and still is a favourite with film stars and celebrities, and more recently with it's nickname 'the Costa Del crime' a haven for British under world villains. With it's many marinas and golf courses it also has it's fair share of Moorish and Gothic buildings as well as Roman remains. The main airport is 7 miles south-west of the port of Malaga.
Local Food
The Costa del sol is famous for having plenty of restaurants serving a variety of English food, but it is well worth looking out for Spanish restaurants serving regional specialities. Spain is the home of the 'tapa' - a variety of small tasty dishes such as cheese, ham, sausage, omlette, vegetable/fish fritters etc etc which accompany drinks. There are also classic Spanish dishes which include 'paella'( a rice, seafood and meat dish), 'escalivado'( an olive oil dressed salad of baked vegetables), and 'cuzuela de mariscos'( a rich seafood stew) Both local and other Spanish wines are inexpensive and include Cava (a sparkling wine) and Muscatel (a sweet dessert wine). The most popular Spanish beer is 'San Miguel'.
