General Information
St. Pauls Bay lies about 10 miles from the airport and is the most popular resort on the island. The areas of Bugibba and Qawra come under this resort, with Buggiba stocked with hotel and apartment blocks and having a promenade that houses the majority of it's shops. Qawra is newer, with probably a more sophisticated feel to it. There are no sandy beaches in the bays, but there are a good variety of water sports to try, while Buggiba has the best shopping facilities on offer. Buggiba is also the place to be at night, as numerous bars, tavernas and discos ensure there will always be plenty to do.
Local Food
Popular European destinations will always have their traditional food influenced by the many tourists that visit their country, and Malta is no different. You'll find plenty of British style meals available here, from burgers to pizzas and all served with chips if that's how you like it. Look around, and you'll also find the odd Italian, French or Chinese restaurant, but you must try the local specials like: Lampuki pie ( filleted Dorado mixed with vegetable, rice & pasta ), Timpani (pasta in meat sauce with a pastry top ) and Pastizzi ( cheese wrapped in pastry ). Imported beers can be bought in nearly all the bars, but the local beers and lagers are very high quality, as are the red and white wines.
