| General Information | | St. Julians lies about 9 miles from the airport, and was once a small fishing village that has developed into a lively tourist resort. A good variety of hotels from 5 star to basic pensions are on offer, while there are great shops to see in both Paceville and Spinola bays. Encompassing St. Georges, the bays have nearly every type of water sport you can think of to try, with a number of bars, tavernas and discos spread throughout the area. There's even a Casino on Dragonara point. | Local Food | | Popular European destinations will always have their traditional food influenced by the many tourists that visit their country, and Malta is no different. You'll find plenty of British style meals available here, from burgers to pizzas and all served with chips if that's how you like it. Look around, and you'll also find the odd Italian, French or Chinese restaurant, but you must try the local specials like: Lampuki pie ( filleted Dorado mixed with vegetable, rice & pasta ), Timpani (pasta in meat sauce with a pastry top ) and Pastizzi ( cheese wrapped in pastry ). Imported beers can be bought in nearly all the bars, but the local beers and lagers are very high quality, as are the red and white wines. |
