| General Information | | Ayia Napa lies on the east coast about 26 miles from the airport at Larnaca. This was once an old fishing village that has given way to the tourist, and is now the biggest resort on the island. A massive amount of hotel and apartment accommodation can be found here, with everything from simple B&B's to the more extravagant. The two beaches are made up of good quality sand, and have nearly every type of water sport available. A good variety of shops will cater for all your holiday needs, and there's plenty of them to choose from. But it's at night that this destination really comes alive, as numerous bars, tavernas and discos spring into life, and the only escape from the noise, is a walk up the far end of the harbour. | Local Food | | An abundance of restaurants, and enough fast food outlets to satisfy all tastes, can be found as you stroll the resort centre. As with most popular European destinations, there's plenty of Burgers, Kebabs, Fried Chicken and Pizzas on nearly every pub and bar menu, and all served with as much chips as you can eat. In the more traditional eateries, local dishes such as Meze and various locally caught Fish specials are well worth a try. Local beers are as good as you'll find anywhere, and the Brandy, especially Brandy Sours, are virtually given away as the island makes it's own. |
