| | General Information | | Zante is the southernmost of the Ionian Islands, measuring 15 miles across, and 24 miles long. With it's chain of limestone peaks in the west, the east of the island has the many olive groves, citrus fruit and grapes it has now become famous for The airport is 3 miles south of it's capitol Zakynthos. Although the most popular resort, Laganas, sits on the east coast, the majority of the rest lie on the north side. The beaches are considered outstanding, and during the turtle breeding season, the nature spotters will be out in force recording every event. There's something for everyone, from frantic night life, to genuine peace and quiet. | | Local Food | | As with all the most popular European destinations, you will find a massive amount of British type bars, pubs and tavernas, serving regular helpings of the sort of food you could find in any seaside resort back home. All meals come with chips, if that’s how you like it, but if you look around, there's Chinese, Italian and French restaurants to try too. If it's the more traditional style your looking for, grilled or fried Chicken, Lamb, Squid and Octopus can be enjoyed with fantastic salads sprinkled in Olive oil. Mzedes( a combination of local dishes), Souvlaki( kebabs), Stifado( local stew) and Fish are dishes found throughout the country and are well worth trying. Most resorts provide a great choice of beers, wines and spirits but expect to pay more for the imported ones. |
