| | General Information | | Rhodes lies within 20 miles of the Turkish coast, and sits at the end of the Dodecanese chain.23 miles wide and 47 miles long, it is one of the largest islands in Greece. Petaloudhes is known for it's Butterflies, while the west coast is fertile and is best known for it's grapes. Rhodes town houses the inter island and international ferries, and has a good choice of blue flag beaches, while on the west coast, it is rockier and much more windy. The main resorts of Faliraki and Lindos are sandy with great drinking and eating options, but peace and quiet is never far away in the little picture post card villages, silent mountains and hidden bays. | | Local Food | | As with all the most popular European destinations, you will find a massive amount of British type bars, pubs and tavernas, serving regular helpings of the sort of food you could find in any seaside resort back home. All meals come with chips, if that’s how you like it, but if you look around, there's Chinese, Italian and French restaurants to try too. If it's the more traditional style your looking for, grilled or fried Chicken, Lamb, Squid and Octopus can be enjoyed with fantastic salads sprinkled in Olive oil. Mezedes( a combination of local dishes), Souvlaki( kebabs), Stifado( local stew) and Fish are dishes found throughout the country and are well worth trying. Most resorts provide a great choice of beers, wines and spirits but expect to pay more for the imported ones. |
