| General Information | | The city of Huelva is located along the Gulf of Cadiz coast, at the confluence of the Odiel and Rio Tinto river. Of great importance as a fishing port as well as for its industry, Huelva is mainly an industrial city. Also it's the center of one of the largest concentrations of beaches in Spain. Huelva may lack the region's star attractions of other provincial capitals, but once you get past the industrial sprawl on its outskirts, the centre is a pleasant place with many pretty plazas, absorbing historical monuments and, as you'd expect from a city with a bustling port, a wealth of seafood bars and restaurants. | Local Food | | Probably the most popular European holiday destination in the world, the food is as varied as the many different nationalities that have settled here over the years. The most famous tourist dish, Paella, can be found in nearly every bar, hotel and restaurant in the country with other local dishes, Paps con Mojo (unpeeled potatoes cooked in seawater) and Gofio Escaldon (hand rolled balls of maize flour eaten with a dip) well worth a try. In the busiest of tourist resorts, Pizzas, Burger and other fast food outlets ensure all tastes are catered for, and most meals are served with a generous helping of chips and salad. Wines and beers are produced locally and are excellent value, as the imported ones tend to cost more and are sometimes inferior. |
