General Information
Lesbos lies in the Aegean sea and has one of the highest amounts of sunshine in Greece. Famous for olives and ouzo, it is quite mountainous but does have some reasonable flat areas near the coasts. The main tourist resort is in Skala Kallonis, but all the resorts have a certain flavour that everyone will enjoy. Just about any type of accommodation can be found here, from high class luxury hotels through to small B&B's and apartments. The beaches at Skala Kallonis and Skala Eressou have the best sand, while the others, although still very good, are more gritty with water sports provided on nearly all of them. Plenty of supermarkets, souvenir and gift shops sell all you'll need, from ouzo and olive oil, to traditional cheeses and handicrafts. There's lots of Monasteries and Historic buildings to visit, with horse riding and tennis available in most resorts. At night, there are enough bars, discos and tavernas to keep you occupied for the duration of your stay here.
Food
Traditional Greek food of Mazes( a combination of local dishes), Sttifado( local stew) and Souvlaki( kebabs) are all here in abundance. Grilled or fried Squid, Octopus and Chicken, served with a great salad and a sprinkling of Olive oil is a firm favourite as well. In the bars, a taste of home can be provided with Pizzas, Burgers etc. all on the menu, and all served with a generous helping of chips. There's even a Sunday roast. The odd French, Chinese or Italian restaurant can be found if you look hard enough, and the local red and white wines make a fine accompaniment with any meal.
