Santorini is part of the Cyclades group of islands and is 12 miles long by 5 miles wide. Tourism provides the main income here, with it's mountainous views and beautiful blue water being a main attraction. Fira is only accessible by cable car or donkey ride, but the cathedrals, churches and shops make this a must see place. Small hotel and apartment blocks form the main type of accommodation here, and if your looking for something other than supermarkets, stick to Fira. Beaches tend to be made up of black sand and are excellent for swimming, with a huge amount of water sports available. Plenty to do and see during the day, and the bars, tavernas and the odd disco will keep you busy throughout the night.
