Description
Situated 5km south west of Mahón, just past the airport, is the quiet, white washed and delightful village of Sant Climent. A small agricultural community, it has grown gradually since the XIV century, when it was a group of peasant dwellings known as Musuptá.
Although surrounded by farm land, San Climent forms a natural centre for the numerous nearby urbanizations. It offers a small selection of shops, banks, and bars. The local cheese is made in the town and can be bought from what appears to be a garage in one of the back streets.Sant Climent, along with its satellite urbanizations, forms a fairly close knit community, who like to enjoy themselves at every occasion. An opportunity for visitors to join in is at the town’s local fiesta in the middle of August, when entertainment includes everything from fireworks to a children's’ party.Sant Climent is also surrounded by history. 4km west of the town is Calas Coves. Reached by a dirt track, the coves are situated around a small forked inlet, and are the site of a unique necropolis of prehistoric caves, hollowed out of the surrounding cliffs. Many are still being used as low cost housing!
