The exotic Venezuelan island of Margarita lies just off the coast of South America. Margarita boasts beautiful golden sandy beaches offering a variety of water sports, however the sea off the north east coast is not suitable for swimming due to strong undercurrents. To the south of the island the clear blue waters are perfect for snorkelling particularly around the small adjacent island of Coche. The resorts to the north of Margarita tend to be quieter and more relaxed than the more sophisticated resort of Porlamar in the south east. Many of the hotels in Margarita offer an all inclusive option with all meals, local drinks and entertainment included in the price you pay for your holiday. Spanish is the main language spoken on the island, a legacy from its Spanish colonial past.
