Kenya has a population of over 30 million people. Although the capital of Kenya is Nairobi most tourism here surrounds the countries national parks and game reserves. In fact 10% of all land in Kenya is designated as national park land. Organised safaris are very popular but there is also the option to do your own thing and hire vehicles and equipment. 240 miles from Nairobi in the Southwest of the country lies the Masai Mara National Reserve where much of the film Out of Africa was shot. Kenyas largest park, the Tsavo National Park covers approximately 8000 square miles, however much of this park is closed to the public. Worth a mention is Lake Turkana in the north of Kenya which actually spans hundreds of miles and has many parks and reserves cluttered around it. The climate varies depending on the region, but in general is very hot all year round with heavy rains during April, May and November.
