Halkidiki extends from the northeastern mainland into the Aegean sea. With it's three distinctive finger shaped peninsulas, Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos, it has a mixture of vineyards, pine forests and some therapeutic springs. Most of the main holiday resorts are clustered on the eastern side of the Kassandra peninsula, with Sithonia having a few and Athos being the home of the local monks. The airport is 10 miles south of the Thessaloniki city, and there are plenty of golden and white sandy beaches, most of whom are Blue Flag.
