Capital: Zagreb. Croatia stretches along the Adriatic coast and a larger inland area. There are 3 main regions, the Istria Region, Split Region and Kvarner Region. Istria is the largest peninsula on the Croatian coast and, partly because of its easy transport links with close-by Italy and Austria, one of the country's major tourist centres. The major resort is Pula. Pula's coastline stretches for some 190km (119 miles) and has long been a popular destination for beach holidays. Istria hosts two other major tourist resorts in Porec and Rovinj as well as Umag and Vrsar. Croatia has a varied climate, with continental climate conditions in the north and Mediterranean ones on the Adriatic coast.
