Address: Acharavi, Corfu, Greek Islands
This is a large village that has grown up along a 5km stretch of safe sand and shingle beach. People who once farmed, have adapted well to tourism. Acharavi is now a perfect holiday place for familes and couples, it has grown up on the green, low lying plain behind the beach. Buildings have been restricted to tree height ensuring that there is nothing to detract from the dramatic scenery. Days are inclined to be spent on the beach and evenings relaxing in one of the many tavernas. The place has changed but the people have not, every year they warmly greet again those old friends who cannot keep away! There are some bars and one night club for those that like to move on somewhere else later. Those that really want to boogie can jump in a taxi and head for the nearby livelier resorts of Sidari and Roda. Most accommodation is self catering though there are a few small hotels. What makes it special is that though one hours drive from Corfu town, it is well situated for exploring the beautiful, unspoilt, north of Corfu, either by car, or on foot into the mountains, where there are magnicent views over to neighbouring Albania, and which, in the spring, are a carpet of wild flowers, or by one of many excursions which will show you the best Corfu has on offer. There are boat trips too, on traditional Greek caiques, to the lovely sandy beaches of nearby islands. There is a bus service along the north coast linking Kassiopi, Acharavi, Roda and Sidari, and to Corfu town. Two weeks will not be enough |
