| Lefkas is joined by a bridge to the mainland and is very mountainous. Measuring 22 miles long and 9 miles wide, the capital Lefkas Town, has plenty of small churches and old town houses. The fishing villages of Lygia, Perigali and Nikana are quite undeveloped with Nidri the most commercialised. Aghios Nikitas has some of the best beaches, while Vassiliki is home to a lovely harbour and long sandy beach. A wide range of accommodation can be found here, from the basic self-catering apartments to some decent class hotels, and there numerous choices of shops available with a large amount of supermarkets. Most of the beaches are very sandy and offer every type of water sports to try, and for the more cultural, there's a museum, monastery and some archaeological sites to explore. Night time entertainment can be enjoyed in the varied bars and discos scattered around the resort areas, with the hotels offering a more extensive programme. | |
