St Petersburg is situated on the Gulf (west) coast of Florida and has some fabulous white sandy beaches. The most popular beach is Treasure Island although Madeira Beach and St Pete's are also popular. Fort de Soto at the southern end of St Petersburg has 10 kilometres of beaches across a number of islands, with fishing piers and an old fort to explore. The most spectacular landmark in this area is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. This road bridge spans the whole of Tampa Bay and offers brilliant views across the bays islands and beaches. This area of the Gulf coast enjoys a sub-tropical climate with plenty of sunshine. There are plenty of restaurants and other eating places with seafood being a particularly favourite. The night life in St Petersburg can also be quite lively with dancing to many types of music including pop, jazz and Irish.
