The picturesque village centre is just a short five-minute stroll from the Olympic House - a delightfully traditional detached house with attractive blue shutters and a pan-tiled roof. Inside, the house is simply yet comfortably furnished with whitewashed walls and cool tiled floors. There is a terrace leading off the open plan living room on the ground floor, while perhaps the best sea views are to be had from one of the balconies of the bedrooms on the floor above. The Olympic House really makes the most of its location on the narrow isthmus of land connecting the island to the headland upon which the ancient Venetian fortress sits for there is no shortage of spots from which to take in the views. There can be few better ways of greeting the new day than opening the French windows and looking out at the small crescent of shingle beach of Assos Bay along with the comings and goings of the little boats into and out of the small harbour. Assos has long occupied a special place in our hearts for the simple reason that all of the necessary ingredients for a care-free holiday can all be found within walking distance. Tavernas set their tables out under the spreading boughs of plane and colourful oleander trees along the harbourside, whilst the shallow and protected waters of the bay are ideal for a cooling dip after a walk along the coast or up to the ruined fort sitting on its hilltop summit.
