Michaelangelo Village Apartment - Hotel is situated on a 11000 square metre property 36 km north of town of Coifu, 500 metres from the centre of Kassiopi, one of the most beautiful villages of Corfu. This oasis is a blend of beautifully tended gardens, palm trees, olive trees and wild nature. Michaelangelo Village consists of 70 apartments for 2-5 persons. All apartments have their own kitchenette, refrigerator and spacious verandas. The picturesque village of Kassiopi has many tavernas, bars, cafes, discos and shops and a daily bus connection with the town of Coifu. Kassiopi: This popular resort is situated 36 kms. from Coifu Town at the entrance to the Corfu Channel. Kassiopi in Roman times was the first landfall in Greece from Italy and has seen many famous visitors including Cicero, MarkAntony (of Cleopatra fame) and the Emperor Nero (who stopped over on his way to the Olympic Games). The Roman built a castle on the heights above the town which was demolished and then rebuilt by the Venetians to protect the village from pirate and Turkish raids. Not much is left of the fort but it can be explored with determination and good shoes. Look out for the old Venetian Church near the harbour and the old canons rescued from a sunken galleon - these are proudly displayed today across from the majestic old plane tree that dominates the harbour square. These canons were dislodged from the wreck during second ~ world war bombings and eventually washed up on the beach to the north. | |
