Funchal lies about 15 lies from the airport and retains it's air of an up-market and sophisticated resort, by the almost domination of luxury 4 and 5 star hotels. Funchal town has a market and commercial centre, as well as an abundance of supermarkets and souvenir shops, and although there is no real beach to speak of, all hotels offer great pools with facilities to match. There is plenty to do during the day, as apart from the sight-seeing, there's an 18 hole golf course, windsurfing and sailing at the marina. Lots of bars, but the majority of the entertainment is provided by the hotels, with regular shows, cabarets, and even a casino. |
