Address: Calvi, Corsica, France
LAghja has the welcome of a family home and the character which only age can bring; it is always a joy to reach this beautiful domain and enjoy the Sanchez familys hospitality. Yet despite its rural setting, LAghja is only a couple of kilometres along a rough track from Calvis glorious sandy beach (and from the airport) and 5km from Calvi centre with its large choice of restaurants and shops. Once a country retreat of Prince Pierre Bonaparte (Napoleons nephew) and one of the many women in his life, LAghja now offers the comfort of self-catering accommodation, spacious enough for families. The Sanchez family, who are hospitable yet discreet, have their own lovely house here, created from a ruin by father Eloy, a gifted architect. Another part of the property has been converted into three two-bedroom apartments, each with its own terrace or patio, with a pretty swimming pool surrounded by a lawn and olive trees. The fourth two-bedroom apartment is found in another part of the property (where there is also a further pool), and opens out on to a private terrace and garden area. All the interiors are traditionally furnished and decorated with country-style fabrics, and each apartment has a double and a twin bedroom, a shower room (the second floor apartment has a bathroom instead) and a comfortable sitting room with a kitchenette. Fanning out below LAghja are vineyards, backed in the distance by the dramatic Bonifatu Mountains, whilst on the other side, the sea can be seen across meadows in which horses graze. Strolling through this gentle landscape, you may find yourselves accompanied by one of the familys pets which comprise a dog, cats and three donkeys. |
