| It is regarded as the crossroads of two continents and its collection of mosques, churches palaces and synagogues dominate the horizon.
The old capital is the largest, most prosperous city split by the Bosphorous strait which joins the sea of Marmara with the Black sea.
A bustling city, very overcrowded, around 12.5 million inhabitants, but this helps give the city its great vitality.
Tourists spend most of their time in the areas of the old town "Stamboul". This is where you will find the old sites of Constantinople and Byzantium and other treasures such as the Aya Sofya church, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque and numerous museums.
There is also a more modern side of the city, which has a cafe culture, clubs, restaurants, and chic shops to rival anywhere in Europe. | |
