Equator Village

Located south west of Sri Lanka, the Maldives are a group of over 1000 coral islands within the Indian Ocean. The Maldives are an escapists dream, with their palm fringed, powder white sands and clear warm waters it is difficult to imagine a better destination for a beach holiday than the Maldives. Some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world can be found here as well as some excellent scuba diving schools. Each of the islands is a resort itself with its own personality and atmosphere. Accommodation tends to be fairly simple although it does vary between resorts. As it is a Muslim nation no alcohol be may be taken into the Maldives (including your duty free), although alcohol is available on the resort islands. There are not many shopping opportunities unless you visit the capital Male, where you will find goods imported from Thailand and India. Transfers to most of the islands from Male are usually by boat or dhoni (local craft). The Maldives are warm and humid all year round but there can be plenty of rain and rough seas between June and October due to the monsoons.

A good budget priced introduction to the Maldives. Mostly used by divers but good for a get away for it all holiday to recharge your batteries. No good for children as only the sea to occupy them as well as a pool but not child oriented. Middle age...See the full report
