Set on a ridge amongst orchards, vineyards and olive groves, Casa Ascencion has panoramic views to the Mediterranean, enchanting Frigiliana and the craggy peaks of the Sierra Tejeda, best enjoyed from beside the glorious pool. The gardens are a joy too and as night falls, sea breezes bring the lingering scent of honeysuckle. As the lights on the coast twinkle, the delicious smells of the barbecue waft up with the promise of a memorable meal, which could include freshly picked avocados and mangoes from the orchard. Inside, robust, polished pine furniture, tiled floors and a welcoming open hearth contrive to make the spacious open plan living-dining room the epitome of comfortable country living. The kitchen is simple but adequate, and there is a washing machine in the outhouse. Frigiliana is one of the prettiest villages in La Axarquia. Just 6km inland from the beaches of Nerja, it remains a traditional farming community with a few concessions to tourism such as wonderful restaurants and craft shops selling colourful, hand-woven rugs and ceramics. |
